Not very happy with Barclays, they sent me this letter in the mail saying im "pre-selected" with a personal id code. So I call in and they give me their lingo then tell me I was declined, I am not very happy with them because I would not have applied for the card and wasted a hit on my credit if they didn't send me all this "pre-selected" false paperwork!
I'm sorry to hear about the decline. Which report did they pull? Was it TU?
Call this number and ask them to reconsider your recent application that was denied. Best of luck, this # is 24 hours. Be prepared to answer questions that they might have on your CR such as lates, CA, CO's, etc... As long as you have some decent responses Barclay's is known to be decent on reconning. If it doesn't work the first time try again an hour later and so on. Good luck!

Im not sure, Im in NY and did not recieve the notice in the mail yet.
Sorry you got declined but pre-selected/pre-qualified/etc. are never a 100% guarantee. Those mailers tend to be marketing only. I agree that you should call the recon line; if you have 6-12 months of current positive credit history, you should be able to squeak in. Good luck.
Quicksilver $10,000 | Better Balance Rewards $2000 | Sallie Mae $3500 | Freedom $3500Barclays Rewards MC was my first credit card after 13 years of going without. It was recommended by Credit Karma when I had a near 800 score. They soft pulled me like crazy. I didn't need a nanny looking over me so intensely so I called and cancelled the card after I got my foot in the door with most of the big boy banks. After a year and 3 months I have a total of 14 credit cards and my scores are nearly what they were when I started. Those FACO sites give bad advice also.

I hear you on that! for me it was 15+ years without, and yes SP way too much! I just did a BT from them to my Discover, want to see their reaction to all my new accounts and that BT! With my big 1000.00 CL they gave me, they can close it if they want! If they don't, I plan to do so around this time next year,
OP, do try the recon, if you want this card, that is something they seem to be good about.
Pre-selected does not mean guaranteed approval. Tough lesson learned but as others have said they are great with recons. My first and only card with them was approved through recon which I still have.
You can try and recon. They are accomodating if your profile supports an approval. Sometimes just talking to an actual person is the key.
As mentioned, Barclay does seem to "watch over" cardholders in general, although AA/CLD doesn't happen as a random choice. Personally, I don't really worry about it. If they ever close my Upromise card for whatever reason so be it, it's an online shopping card, not exactly my daily driver.
