@wanttobeinthe700club, funny thing is that i was approved for discover 18 months post discharge for $6k SL now at $8.5K. was denied once before being approved and only reason stated was Bk on file. I guess i will wait for another year to try again for blispay i really wanted that 6 mos no interest on $199 or more. Never know when it can come in handy.

Discover is so all over the place in approvals with a BK showing that I don't think anyone can figure out their system. I app'd just over 4 years discharge after their very unreliable pre-qual indicated approval. Instant denial, letter cited BK and "serious delinquencies" that were actually just the IIB accounts marked as derogatory for being IIB. Then a few months later they started mailing weekly pre-approval. letters. On the third one I decided maybe they were serious & app'd - not only instant approval w/$4k SL, they didn't even HP me.

Don't be discourage by the Blispay denial, I doubt if BK was the only reason, they seem to focus more on new accounts/inquiries and any high balances. I app'd for Blispay in early June. First I was rejected for identity, I flunked their test that asked what my phone # in Las Vegas was, I moved from there 12 years ago, I have trouble remembering my current phone #. So I called & agreed to fax copies of drivers license & Soc.Sec. card. Then I got the rejection letter, you would have thought I was a deadbeat that lived from payday loan to payday loan - BK! (Yeah, over 7 years ago, EX Ficdo is now 689) Serious delinquency! (That would be the 1 remaining IIB account, my non-reaffirmed mortgage, on which 7 1/2 years later I still have never been late). Too man inquires! (OK, 10 on EQ, a bit high)

I just wanted Blispay for the 2% rewards. Do you have a PayPal account? If so you might log in and see if you get the invite for the new Synchrony 2% Cashback card. I'm pretty sure is also has 6 mos no interest on $199+. I haven't got my card yet, but I app'd Monday & got instant approval. They pull TU, my best score - 720 Fico & 6 inquiries.

Dave, was the discover mailer a pre-approval or a pre-qualified offer? How much time had elapsed at your approval from the time your BK discharged?  I included Discover for $400 in 2012 (which I mentioned in passing in another post that I believe you responded to in another thread). I had tried previously for the unsecured and secured and was denied but had never received an invite to apply, just prequal on the website. Last year, I starting receiving weekly mailers, apped, and was denied (despite the agent almost guaranteeing me that the code I provided meant I would get an approval). Since then, I have been receiving mail invites on a weekly basis and even received the coveted ivory invite printed on high grade paper stock with a fixed APR. I didn't bite because of my past denials and the fact that they don't drop of my CRs until next year in March and November, but again am feeling tempted to apply because I received yet another invite (purple envelope on normal paper) in the mail today. I've got lots of inquiries though, 6 on EQ, 9 on TU, and 7 on EX, 20 of these will be dropping between Ocotber 2017 and November 2018. I was planning on waiting to app until the bulk of them dropped and because I have also taken some hits to my credit scores from oepning two new accounts in the past week. June 8 Fico 8 scores were EQ 693, TU 679, and EX a lousy 658 (down from 673 after the refinancing of a student loan last year). Current utilization is 4%, total credit line on reporting cards is $27,550 but the new accounts not reporting will bring my total credit lines to $42,550. I dont know if I should wait longer or just go for it.

Re: Blispay denied due to BK

Have you tried the discover find my offer tool on their website? If its a set APR there too you may have a shot. Before i was denied and did their online tool and just got the regular marketing offer with their widest range of apr's. When i was approved i did their prequalifier and got a set apr and thats when i took the bait and was approved for $6k.

I don't remember the exact wording, it was summer of 2015, but it came with a code & fixed APR and came in the fancy ivory embossed envelop & letter - we did a thread back then & folks who got the fancy paper invite were all approved, while invites on plain white paper were hit or miss, just like Discover's "pre-qual" page. I was just over 4 years post discharged in early 2015 when I first app'd & was denied (their unreliable pre-qual hadd indicated approval), I was 4 1/5 years post discharge when approved. The one major change on my CR between denial & approval was a new Bank of America CC - secured, but you can't know if a CC is secure or not from a CR, only the issuer knows. I did not include Discover in my BK, I'd never done business with them before. My IIB accounts were all on my CR back then, now they're all gone from TU (early exclusion) and only my non-reaffirmed mortgage on EQ & EX until Sept.

I don't recall reading that Discover is particularly inquiry sensitive, as I've said they have a really odd & unique system for approvals - some get approved 2 years post BK, others are denied 5 year post discharge, I will say that for my situation Discover is over rated, my CL is now $10.6k, but I don't use it that often - 1% rewards doesn't cut it, and the 5% quarterly categories are rarely something I spend much on, the Jan-Mar 5% for gas is when I use it the most, otherwise my use is for interest free (if PIF) cashback at Walmart & grocery stores - my small town bank closed 2 years ago and I won't pay a $3 ATM fee for a couple $20s.

If you really want it and you keep getting those invites you might give them one more shot.

I have, the APR is a spread of 3% on both invite and website.

Thanks for this detailed reply, it helps; I am going to shred the invite and continue my original plan of gardening.  Maybe if I get the fancy invite again I'll try, but its really not worth burning an inquiry for curiosity's sake.

Good choice some say its a hit or miss with the 3% range and some say its a good chance of approval. I would wait until you get a set Apr instead. Good luck in the garden

Re: Blispay denied due to BK

The other option for folks thinking they are being teased by Discover..... Have any of you signed up for Credit Scorecard... Free Fico once a month.. BUT.... some folks have reported being offered both their SECURED cards and REGULAR cards on the Scorecard website... I have the belief that these are a bit more targeted offers since they know who you are and have your score (from the SP used for the FICO score).... Might have a bit better luck.. if CS is offering you SECURED.. your likely to not be approvable for the regular card or borderline approval....

Ever think of going that route?

Yes theres been some slowness and issues recently with CLI increases post-unsecuring.. but still rather see an approval for one that usually will unsecure in anywhere from 7 mo to a year... (yes there are some that go on longer... but like anything in creditland... YCMV)

Just some thoughts if you BK'ers would like a little better odds with bipolar Discover...

Hmmm, interesting - I haveen't heard of ScoreCard.com offering pre-quals for Discover cards. But I do recommend it, I have it - with a Disccover card you get free monthly TU Fico, with a ScoreCard.com account - free and available to everyone - you get a free monthly EX Fico score.

Good tip; I forgot that I am registered with Credit Scorecard. The only product populating is the unsecured IT, but I am wary because I doubt Credit Scorecard is connected to the internal blacklist system that may or may not still contain my name listing the prior IIB for $400.  Would be interesting to know if others being offered unsecured cards on Scorecard site and not being offered secured, and who did previously IIB Discover, AND are receiving prequal/approval mailers get approvals after apping.  I called about this my specific offer code yesterday and was again told the associated code usually generates an approval, but based on my past experience, I know that such information is not reliable until the application is actually processed through the system. Again, i was previously denied for the secured card anyway at a point when I didn't have any need for a secured card, and only had applied to reestablish relationship with Discover. I also asked representative if, since I had included Disover in bankruptcy, my past relationship would be reflected in their internal system. She said that records do remain in the system for some time but the length of time varies and that the records are eventually purged from their system after a certain duration, but she could give me no definitive time frame.  I am sure that the duration one's records remain in the system is contingent on the amount that was defaulted on.
