Question for you all with much more experience than me. I applied for the MLB Extra Bases BoA card and got declined. I called for recon and was advised I had a collection on my Experian report for $2000 from Comcast. This was the only report I didn't have a really recent report from so of course this is the only one they reported this to.This is identity theft and I am working on getting it removed via police reports/Comcast etc...
My question is, is it likely I can talk my way through another recon if I advise them the collection is identity theft and I can provide a police report etc...? Getting this removed from my report could take 30+ days and I'd rather not have to do another hard pull if I can avoid it. My Experian credit score even with the collection is 677. TU is 721 and EQ is 715.

They more than likely want that collection item to be removed from your CRs. BOA is a bit tough when it comes to negative items on CRs. While anything is possible and stranger things have happened (given the unfortunate set of circumstances with your case); it's highly doubtful you can talk your way through an approval since a police report will not help.
Bummer, guess the card won't be going anywhere and I can try again in a few months.

If you have already incurred the HP, it's worth a try to see what they say. Just explain your situation. You may get a sympathetic ear so anything is possible. Don't give up. What I previously mentioned was based on other folks' anecdotes that didn't have much success given negative item(s) on CRs. However, every profile is different. Give it a shot. If they say no, then you can try them again when that item has been removed from your CRs.
I called again to try to talk them through. Not sure if this sounds right but they claimed it was no problem and that I could just call them back for a reconsideration any time in the next 90 days after the item gets removed. The part that seemed sketchy but I am ignorant on is that they said they get daily FICO score updates for applicants and they would be able to reevaluate my application after I get the neg TL removed without doing another hard pull.
