I was approved for a BofA Bankamericard Mastercard back in 11/2019 and you can read my DPs on that post here. DPs are mostly the same. I used this approval for a BT and still have a 7K balance on it (I have until May 2021 with 0%). Since then I kept getting mailers for more BofA card offers and ignored them since this is my first BofA card and it was not 90 days yet, and want to hold out for the Alaska card anyway.
Now it's officially 90+ days and I got this offer for a "Save Big Your Way "Lower Rate, More Time" BT and it was confusing so I called them. They said my current offer is still the best offer and then he asked if I had other cards with balances I wanted to transfer...
I was like, "Well, sure, why do you ask?" haha
He basically talked me into asking for a CLI and promised it would be a SP. From what I've read here a magic luv button appears on your account page when you are technically eligible for a CLI (which I've been checking about once a week to no avail). He told me that was defininitley NOT the case in every instance, but that the SP would be "hand-processed" by a banker. He asked my income, rent/mortgage, and desired limit.
It kinda seemed like he just had me do the CLI so he could try and sell me a checking account and a mortgage, which he did try! And I'm hoping that there won't be a HP afterall because I have been burned on the SP promise before (by Wells Fargo for a BLOC offer).
The whole process seemed rather strange and salesy to me, and I'm not holding my breath for a CLI. I'll post when I hear anything more, and feel free to give your opinions or links to posts I may have missed. I'm still trying to get a feel for BofA, so any input is apprecieted.
I'm curious if it's approved. I spoke to a CSR a couple of days ago and they also tried to get me into a CLI. I couldn't remember what report BOA pulled for CLI—(reports are frozen) so I declined their offer. The CSR was very pushy about it now that I recall and didn't want to tell me which report they pull... I have read it's (12) months before the LUV button becomes available now with BOA new accounts. Obviously, YMMV, but I'm still awaiting the LUV button and I'm about (9) months in.
It's definitely a YMMV. Also, they typically SP TU for CLI requests.
@FinStar will want to see this too, I'm sure he'll get another laugh out of it.
I had applied for the MLB card 2 weeks ago tonight (there's a thread in Approvals) and it was approved on 2/14 with a $500 SL.
I just looked and the Request a credit line increase hyperlink is there. I'm not going to tempt fate because they didn't pull the $500 from another card's CL like the approval notice said they would, but I still found it funny.
I had the hyperlink appear about 3 weeks after approval of my 1st Cash Rewards card as well but that was about 3 years ago, when a CLI request meant a HP if BoA hadn't already pulled one on you within the previous 30 days. This one is about as recent as it gets.
Just hit it. I triple dare you. C'mon where's your spirit of adventure @coldfusion? ![]()

I'm wondering if it's cross-referencing your internal profile as a whole for the CLI link to display, since you're technically nota BoA/ML newbie!
I had considered that and checked. My PR and Cash Rewards #1 cards have it but CR #2 and the BBR do not.
Also, BoA (and Chase) has treated me well over the years. I've no problem squeezing them but I don't want to choke them lol

You have $900K in total credit lines and BoA only gave you $500? Are you at their max exposure of (typically) $99,900?
Interesting that you got the CLI button so soon after opening the account. Maybe they felt bad they only gave you $500? ![]()

I'm at over $120K in CC exposure with BoA. Supposedly the $500 was going to be reallocated over from another CC but it never happened.
UPDATE: I received a letter from BoA today telling me I was denied for the CLI. No HP ever came in, so that's good. WHEW! It was a SP from TU. (DPs linked in my original post).
The reasons they stated for denial were: 1) "Your account has been open for less than 12 months." and 2) "Limited Deposit and/or investment balances with us and/or our affiliates." Ok, who are their affiliates? Do they mean their other products like mortgages etc? Either way, that does seem fair I suppose; this card is my first ever account with them.
Anyway, I will set myself a reminder to check in when my 12 month mark hits, I guess. Thanks for the input and hopefully the story and DPs help someone else out there.
Bank of America is about 25 different corporate entities and they're all designated as affiliates. US Trust, the different Merrill corporate entities (like 8 of those), and Balboa Insurance are all examples as are the 4-5 different BoA organizations.
They like investment or mortgage accounts just like they do savings/checking customers.
@coldfusion does just having a savings or checking really help? I cant get a cli/ second card from them due to low income and no banking relationship/assets but wondered if even opening a $500 savings would sway them? Thanks
On an AJC ism, Op, where can i buy one of those requests?😄

I can't honestly quantify as to how much sway having $500 in assets deposited might have with a personal card. As I've mentioned on the site before the only actual data points I know of are of applicants for business cards that were given approvals on the condition they open a CD of at least $1500.
I don't know how much sway the checking/savings relationship has. I've been using BofA for ~20 years for checking/savings. My lone credit card had been stuck at $8k for years and I never had the increase button.
I decided to pull this out of SD to do a balance transfer and immediately after I completed that the increase button appeared and they doubled my limit to $16k. This would lead me to believe they care more about usage than a relationship.
