Re: CC strategy, guidance?

Well darn!  I went ahead and took a few minutes to do the BofA secured card app online and was declined ☹️....I’m actually shocked and wasn’t expecting a decline, especially after speaking with the unsecured underwriters who gave me the feeling that I should be fine on the secured.  I do want to say they did not promise anything, but just seemed without actually saying it, would not be a problem.  Data Point - 2nd HP to EX. 🤦‍♀️👎☹️

That is quite unfortunate. I would recommend calling in if they are open. Perhaps, going in branch if that is an alternative.

Also, if you get to speak with csr, ask if the 2nd HP can be recoded as SP. They might not do it but it's worth asking.

Re: CC strategy, guidance?

I read the whole thing. You got me at the beginning, where you talked about your age and just now starting on your credit journey.  I've been where you are but an older version.

I am still figuring things out, so can't give a lot of advice, but remember, it is a marathon, not a sprint. This I feel was the best piece of advice I've gotten so far, but the hardest to except. You only need 3 cards (and it does not matter if they are secured- they score the same) to get the most out of your score. It will take months, but it will happen as long as you use responsibly.

There is a ton of great information on this site, and the people here rock and are willing to give advice. Read. Read. Read.

Oh, and the hard pulls only last for 2 years, and for a large chunk of that you need to be just chilling anyway.

Starting score - May 2018

April 2021

AAoA - 1 year 6 months

Re: CC strategy, guidance?

Will do @AllZero...will try calling Monday. After that I believe going forward it's best I sit on my hands, no apps and focus on nurturing my new relationships with NFCU and Discover....and a nap.  I believe a little nap is quite appealing. 🙂
