CLI Denial by Discover

Hi all,

I applied for CLI with Discover and got instantly denied last week.
They sent me a letter in the mail stating a reason: "Insufficient experience with current discover credit limit".
Just FYI, this card was my first CC ever and I started with secured 300$ limit, was graduated in August with CLI to 2000$...so its just been 2 months after that CLI.
What do you think about this denial? Should I wait longer to apply for CLI again or it is not a timing issue? Maybe I am just not spending a lot on this card? Cause I only spend like 300-500$ each months on this card.

Moved to the US in August 2018.
Applied for Citi Costco in November 2018 - Denied due to lack of history (no history).
Started building credit in January 2019. Please hover over each card:

Also have Chase Marriott Bonvoy Bold (6 months old, $11k limit)
Bilt Credit Card (6 months old, $2k limit)
Amex Hilton Honors Surpass (1 month old, $16k limit)
Two paid off auto loans ($20.5K and $15.7K)

Re: CLI Denial by Discover

Pretty sure we've all recevied that denial reason from Disco -- it's just their way of telling you they're not ready to increase your limit again just yet; they need more time to decide whether  you can handle a higher limit.   You can go through countless threads of folks posting about receiving it month after month.  I've received it the 4 times I've tried since my last CLI in March.   Just keep trying --  there is no set timeframe between CLIs with Discover - you could try every month if you want (I received back to back CLIs every month for 3 months before my well ran dry).     Eventually, you'll get an approval again.   Just keep using the card as you normally would -- increased spending is not necessary.

My last 3 CLIs from Discover occurred at 3-month intervals.  I usually apply monthly on the Payment Due date (the 4th of the month) and I've gotten several denials similar to the one you received.  Spending is not the issue...Discover just wants you to wait a bit longer before they approve a CLI.

My last CLIs were as follows:

2/4/19 - $2,000

5/28/19 - $2,000

9/4/19 - $5,000

Probably wouldn't request again before 12/4/19 but there are several members who ask much more frequently.

Re: CLI Denial by Discover

Dh received 3 since the end of Jan. 2019, but his wasn't secured to begin with.  Mine was secured/unsecured and received a cli 3 months after unsecuring.  Now I can't get another one, I ask a lot!Smiley Tongue  A CSR told me to wait til mine hits after the one year mark, stmt. cuts so that's what I'm going to do.  It may be what you'll have to do too...who knows, like all we can do is try.
