Then I am guessing whoever OP talked to didn't know this. I'd call back again OP and add him on.

It could very well be that the others who were able to add AU's to the secured cards had previous history, maybe in the form of student loans or a car loan, etc. Maybe our OP doesn't have that bit of positive history.
Or the rep just didn't know...which happens. -_-
Capital One allows authorized users. I added my wife and I to my moms preapproved card last year. Is your card secured or unsecured? If unsecured you can do that on line.
How old are the medical collections and insurance bill? Did you try to dispute them? Did you use the HIpaa law to the letter.? That should get the medical bills off soon,
First United, Cap One and Discover were the 3 denials. I will try Cap One again and look into some of the secured cards. We really need a boost for homebuying. we are 5 people in a 2 bedroom trailor looking to be ready in 6-9 months for a home before our lease is up!
@coldnmn wrote:In my opinion SDFCU is a good choice. They report to all three credit bureaus and no credit check. To find a cheap way to join search the board at top of the page. The only down side is it doesn't unsecure but it will definitely give a jump start to a credit journey.

SDFCU: Keep track of all the necessary log ins for their security; there is an Apps site and a real, ongoing account site, but the application and getting the card only requires you to determine the credit line you want: $250 and up. Transfer the money into the savings account and after that make the secured card app on line. Plus, this one earns some sort of rewards points per dollar spend, so there's a little bonus after some usage. No AF, no FTF, low APR.
Have him call all the CBs about the car now and ask for early exclusion - if it is really dated next month all 3 could do it. Go to the Rebuilding forum and search "early exclusion" if you want more detailed info. Then it will be gone before the month rolls.
How old are the medical and insurance collections? If you really want to look at a mortgage they will need to be paid. Research Verification and Paid for Delete on the rebuild forum and contact those collection agencies and try that route. Are the amounts accurate and how old?
Capital One - you don't say if yours is secured or in Credit Steps. If it is unsecured in Credit Steps, you can just log into your account and add him as an AU. Log in, go to the SERVICES tab at the top. Drop down will show MANAGE AUTHORIZED USERS. Enter his info and they will send a card and add it to his credit report in a statement or two.
Try to get the early exclusion and see where his score goes if they take it off.
Another option that is controversial on these forums as far as love/hate goes is Credit One. You can enter his/ your info on there though for a SP and see if you are approved or not. They are one though that approves easier and they have given alot of people a head start early on in credit rebuilding. I have one and so does my hubby; will probably close at the anniversary but, for now it just reports a CL every month. I got it at $300 cl and they auto increased to $500 a couple months later. We have both stopped using it since we got other cards since that we actually want to grow our internal score with over time so all usage goes to them. However, they will likely give each of you a chance to open your own accounts and it will help to build. Just make sure you make payment in plenty of time each month, their website is a bit antequated and they charge for express payments if you cut it too close tot he due date.
Good luck!! Read Read Read on the Rebuild forum...........lots of detailed info!!!
