Cap1 credit steps?

I’m wondering if this is a credit steps card or something that’ll be bucketed.....so I got an email from cap1 today stating: Your current credit line is $2,000
Earn access to a higher line of $2,500.

Re: Your account ending in xxxx

XXXXXX,

Get more from your new credit card—use your card at least once, pay your bills on time and you’ll gain access to a higher credit line.
Earn access to a higher credit line of:
$2,500
by making your first 5 minimum
payments on time.
There’s nothing to sign up for. The countdown to your higher credit line begins with your next payment, and by July 2020, you’ll have access to your new credit line.

It’s the quicksilver card not the QS1.
Thoughts?

Re: Cap1 credit steps?

Yes, that's part of the credit steps program. Ordinarily, if you were approved under better terms, then you wouldn't receive any other notification of any additional requirements to obtain a CLI.

How hard is it to grow them?

Re: Cap1 credit steps?

Is your QS a Visa or a MasterCard?

Visa is supposed to be the Good Credit QS
The MC version is the Limited credit version

That’s a good thing. Then you’re doing better off than you think.
We can’t predict the future, but I think you’re in good shape.

Re: Cap1 credit steps?

Cap1 likes heavy usage. Use the card a lot, PIF or pay at least 3x minimum and you'll look good to them.

4 months after my credit steps increase I got another auto-cli of $1k. DP's: 30-50% spend, 8% statement balance, PIF

Pretty sure you don't start bucketed, but it can get bucketed based on their internal scoring/not enough use. I'd say you're in a good spot

Re: Cap1 credit steps?

OP,  my limit started with them at $500, raised to $750 on my 6th month "birthday." changed in month 7 (last month) to a QS.   I'm hoping to grow this one too.   I understand that this isn't an ideal comment, but I think you're in much better shape than many.  And yeah, mine's the Mastercard.

Does anyone know if Cap One shares its customers' good behavior profiles across products?  I have a COAF loan that I always pay extra on.  I'd like to think that the credit card side sees that too.   Thanks for any info.

Rebuilding is like smoking a brisket: it takes a lot of love, the right spice, and a ton of patience. You don't rush a brisket-- it goes low & slow. Sometimes, you need a crutch through the stall. In the end, the process matters.
2021 goals:
1) GARDEN until I app for Mortgage.
2) Pay Down overall revolving debt aggressively and accountably, to under 30%, including my HELOC.
3) Don't waste the gifted 0% time on the student loans.
4) Ultimately, refi the house at non-usury terms.

Re: Cap1 credit steps?

My Capital One QS (started as Platinum) began at $2k and went to $2500 with credit steps (just as your message says).

I didn’t use the card much and my next CLI request was denied (not enough use).

My subsequent CLI request (after big use and paying to $0) was approved for $3k.

It’s been 6 months since that one so I requested another CLI. It was denied (not sure why yet-but I’m going to assume not enough use as it hasn’t seen much action lately).

While technically every Capital One card is “bucketed” it’s a matter of which bucket you’re in. I think starting at $2k has the potential to grow well.

The question is if the card will see enough use to make that happen. They really like to see big use (and payments) before considering an increase. Frankly-it’s just not my best card 99% of the time and I’m not willing to shuttle spend through it and lose cash back/other rewards just to get a higher CL on a card I’m still not going to use much. YMMV.

Re: Cap1 credit steps?

I’ll use it, I’ve got other and better cards, I’m quite fond of my sapphire preferred and my more rewards though. I dont know what I’ll do but I’ll definitely use it. Maybe when certain projects start back up at work I’ll run a grand or so a week through it and get reimbursed.
