Capital One Dilemma and other rantings

Hey guys! Ok so I've been thinking about the whole Cap 1 fiasco (where they've temporarily removed the combine cards feature) and about what do to next until they fix (if they ever do), that issue. I have enough room on my Chase FU to do a BT (it's only like $312 on my QS1) so that I can free up that card in case the issue gets resolved and combine the limit with my Platinum that I upgraded (following the link on here) to a regular QS. Should I do that and just wait with everything crossed (fingers, legs arms, eyes) so I can combine? Or should I do the BT, close the QS1 and then try to apply for another Cap 1 card with hopefully a higher SL, or should I do the BT and just let it sit, or should I steer clear of all of that and just continue making payments. My current Fico 8 scores are:

Experian - 646

Equifax - 659

Transunion- 628

My scores were in the mid 500's when I originally applied for the Cap 1 cards a few years ago so just trying to get some outside thoughts on how best to tackle this. =)  (sorry for making anyone scratch or shake their heads lol)

Re: Capital One Dilemma and other rantings

Honestly I would pay it off and ignore it. CapOne rarely does things that are beneficial for bucketed cards, which yours would be if you got it with scores in the 500s. Likewise, in my mind they offer nothing worth a triple HP that you can’t do as well on elsewhere.

What other cards do you have? Limits and utilizations? Chances are there’s something else out there that’ll treat you better for one HP.

Re: Capital One Dilemma and other rantings

I am with Devil on this. I would pay it off / BT the balance and leave it alone. Also, if your platinum does not have an AF, I would attempt to combine the QS1 to the platinum. From there close the QS1 so you dont have to worry about the AF. You and I seem to be in the same bucket (very low tier with Cap 1), and holding onto the card if it has an annual fee IMO is just not worth it. I can not seem to get Cap 1 to even budge slightly on a CLI to get over $750. I have sock drawered my card. Seeing if I can get a possible upgrade to regular QS with no annual fee. If I can not do that, I will simply cancel the card.

Re: Capital One Dilemma and other rantings

Hey there! Thanks for the replies on this. Regarding your thought on combining my Cap 1 cards, I'm afraid they're not offering that option at the moment which is why I was inquiring on what would be the best thing to do. I do check my account every other day for that feature since the rep I spoke to stated that it wasn't permanently removed, just temporary. I did an upgrade already on my Platinum and it is now a regular QS which is why I didn't want to hang on to the QS1 since it has the AF. I guess either way, they're never going to raise my limits so after I pay them both off, I'll just let them rot in the sock drawer lol

I have no choice but to keep my qs1 as it's my oldest card. All I can do is pray for an upgrade.

Re: Capital One Dilemma and other rantings

From reading your post OP. Your in the rebuilding mode. Keep all accounts open for now. Do your BT. You can call Cap1 and ask for the AF be waived on the brick. I mean the QS1. Many do. Yes I had both the starters until things got better and then the funeral happened and they were laid to rest. (SeeBelow) They are helping you now build up for better things later. May not seem like it. But they are. Will the combine come back? Its wait and see.

Re: Capital One Dilemma and other rantings

I was talking to a specialist at Capital One last week doing a PC on one of my cards, her computer was running slow and we got chatting about their new “computer system” and she brought up the account combine was one of the things effected by it and that it should be resolved the first half of April.. again never know but maybe!

Re: Capital One Dilemma and other rantings

Yes that is the hope! I've spoken to 3 Cap 1 people in the last 4 weeks and all three have stated that they're not sure when that feature will be reimplemented, but that I should nevertheless keep checking for it periodically so that at least implies some sort of hope, especially since another person (new contributor nax) was also given the same information. I think I will go ahead and do the BT since I've read on other Chase threads that they like to see BT's and it might tickle them to toss out an auto CLI here and there. My 4th statement will cut middle of next month with them so maybe they'll say, hey after that BT she needs a CLI lol...who knows right? Smiley Very Happy #notgonnaholdmybreath

Excellent plan (the not holding your breath part I mean lol). Something may happen, but with CapOne, it’s plan for the worst, hope for the best.
