CapitalOne Quicksilver Rewards Recon

Hey guys, I'm a college student with a credit score of 682. I recently received a pre-qualified offer via mail for the capitalone platinum mastercard, and I decided to use their online pre-qualification tool to see which one was best suited for me. They recommended me the quicksilver rewards visa credit card, which I applied for. I was instantly denied by their system because I had no credit file on Experian, and my credit history was too limited on Equifax. The only thing thing on my credit report is my 7 student loan accounts with a $20k balance dating back to early 2013.

1.5 weeks ago I was approved for a discover student card with a $1k credit line, but that has yet to show up on my report. I emailed the executive office of capitalone, and I received a call from them later that day. The lady on the line told me she wouldn't give me any recommendations, and I basically had two choices. To attempt a reconsideration for the quicksilver card or try to apply for the platinum mastercard I prequalified for in the mail. I could also try the Journey Visa card. I have been self employed (online marketing) since December 2015, and I am making earnings at a rate of around 18k a year after expenses (not taxes). As of now, I have no living or housing expensives.

I'm wondering the best route to go, as each of the choices will do a hard pull unless I decide not to apply. Should I try a recon and hope they accept me for the quicksilver rewards or apply to a lesser credit card? Or should I just wait a year or so before applying again while building credit with my discover card?

Re: CapitalOne Quicksilver Rewards Recon

You don't necessarily have to wait a year.  But give it at least 6 months and then try again.  As for recon, if you have already spoken to EO then you are better off giving it a rest and waiting...

Welcome to the board by the way..

Re: CapitalOne Quicksilver Rewards Recon

Thanks. She offered a reconsideration but I told her I would check with the credit bureaus first to make sure my information is correct. I could call her back if I want to initiate it. Is it best to accept the denial and wait without doing the recon?

If the recon was offered then by all means, give it a shot as you have already taken the hardpull.  No matter the results of the recon, don't apply for any more cards and wait at least 6 months...

Will keep fingers crossed for you and update the thread when you get the results of the recon.
