Chase 5/24 - will cancelled cards count?

Hello Folks,

My goal card is Chase Sapphire Reserve. I have a few cards I opened in Nov 2022. Most of the cards are from Citi. CLIs always get denied and they are not growing at all as Citi is sensitive to Inquiries. I was wondering, whether I can close these 3 Citi cards that I have, 1.) Home Depot card, 2.) Best Buy card, 3.) Costco card. If I take these 3 cards out of my credit report, I will become 4/24. So, I was wondering if I cancel these cards, will Chase consider me under the 5/24 rule?

Thanks in advance.

Nope, sorry, closing a card doesn't make it look as if it never happened; the cards and their associated hard pulls will continue to report even after closure.  Case in point, I closed a card back in 2020 after having it for only 7-weeks; the hard pull has dropped off my reports, but the history still reports every month.

  • 1st Payment (posted): 23-Mar-2015
  • Last Payment (posted): 07-Feb-2020
  • Discharged: 04-Mar-2020

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

@JoeRockhead sorry. Couldn't help but notice your post. Shouldn't it be "Ain't the grammar police or nothing..." 😁
