When you check your offers. If you see them you're pre-approved and it bypasses 5/24. It's the only way to do so.

You can also go in branch and ask banker if you have any pre-approvals. This bypasses 5/24 rule.

You can also go to preapproval search page and check for offers. This also bypasses 5/24

Re: Chase 5/24

Like the other posters mention, pre-approvals tend to override 5/24. When you log on to the Chase website, check for offers in the "Just for You" section of the site. You can also stop by a branch and they can check for pre-approved offers.

I am currently 7/24 and will be 4/24 in January 2022.

I have 9 Amex, 2 Bank of America, 3 Capital One and 1 Discover cards. A 3% CU, little debt, no delinquencies

My FICO 8 (6/6/21): EQ: 758, TU: 771, EX: 755

I just opened checking and invester accts with Chase. Chase then immediately preapproved me for Sappire Preffered despite my 7/24 status.

My questions are:

1) Is this a fluke in their algorithm? An automatic preapproval based on my scores? I planned on waiting until 1/2022 when I'll be 4/24. I don't want to apply sooner and waste a hard pull if there's a chance I'll be denied. Is the 5/24 pretty consistent even though Chase denies such a rule? Are there exceptions? If so, what are they?

Thanks for your thoughts/answers in advance.

1. 5/24 is real, but the preapprovals override 5/24.

2. There is of course a chance you will be denied. I once had a preapproval for a Chase Ink card, applied, and was turned down. And it well might be 2 hard pulls, as Chase often double pulls.

I've always heard that preapprovals bypass the 5/24 rule (basically the only exception that I know of). Is this the card you wanted? Were you planning to use a referral? (you can't do this with a preapproval)

Re: Chase 5/24

It's the card I want but it seems as though even stellar credit and preapproval is not as solid a guarantee for approval as is getting under the 5/24 restriction. I'll be 4/24 in January 2022 so I'll just wait.

Thanks so much for your help.

Chase 5/24

I have Amex Platinum, Gold and BCP cards with excellent credit; no dings.

I just fell under the 5/24 radar as I December 30, 2021. I'm 4/24 now and drop down to 2/24 in April this year.

I have checking and investment accounts with Chase too. I opened them up last summer when I read that this increases my odds.

How long do I have to wait to apply for the CSR or CSP to maximize my approval odds?

Thanks in advance to you all.

Re: Chase 5/24

How long ago were you approved for your last card?

How long ago were you approved for your last Chase card?

Did you ever hold a CSP or CSR, and if so when were you approved?

No reason to wait.

Re: Chase 5/24

Having checking/savings accounts with Chase won't have any bearing unless you're a serious high roller (as in 7+ figures).

Anyway if you're under 5/24 with no dings, excellent credit and other good cards, you should be pretty solid as long as you don't have excessive inquiries and utilization is low (<30%, but ideally <10%).
