Chase Freedom Unlimited CLI declined...

On 12/7, I went online and requested a CLI as I have not had a bump since my original SL.  I have had a lot of success recently with CLI so I figured I would pull the trigger.  Fast forward to Monday morning.... I was declined for not enough usage. I have been using this card ( only card from chase in my portfolio ) as my main driver.  I normally run about $14-16k monthly through this card and have been doing so for about 18 months as my job requires me to travel more.  Routinely paying it in full several times a month.  My limit is $9500 and requested a $25k limit. Late Monday afternoon, I stopped in closest branch and asked to see manager as I wanted to close my accounts leaving FU open as I have a lot of UR points.

Manager wanted to know why, I was closing my accounts and I told him why.  He could not belive it so he caled in to try to help.  He got same answer.  I told him that I want everything closed and Ill be moving my investments elsewhere shortly.  To say that Im a bit upset is an understatement.  Im not a whale by any stretch of the imagination, but my accounts are allow us to be comfortable.  THis morning on Tuesday, my "advisor" called me to explain that there was a problem, a glitch in the system and the problem is taken care of.  My reply was if you want to treat people a certain way and they dont like it, and they leave because of said treatment so be it.

Before the chase white knights come out,  I get that its their policy and their monies and they can do as they please.  All Im saying is,  I did not like getting declined for something that should have easy to do in my favor.  I have ZERO baddies on any of the 4 cb's, scores are about 780 across the board. Im just not going to take the crap from a company after I give them a LOT of monies to "manage our investments and personal accounts".  Its not often that I get this way but to hell with any banker who does not see this as quid pro quo system. Sorry for my rambling but Im wondering if others out here fell the same after they have been declined.  I know AMEX, CITI or BOA would love to get someone like me to run $14k monthly through their cards.

Re: Chase Freedom Unlimited CLI declined...

Sorry for your denial. I'm as about as far from a Chase white knight as it gets. lol

Chase isn't big on CLI's. Sure you have a few that come here and say they had success with a CLI. The majority are shot down from the data here.

I've been shot down once. Never asked for another. That was 4 years ago when I had a whopping $1500 limit. I couldn't get a dime out of them going the CLI route. I took their head off just grabbing other CC's and consolidating them. There's always more than one way to skin that cat. You just have to be willing to be a little unorthodox about doing it.

If you'd apped for a CSR or something similar. I have no doubt you'd have walked away with a $30K plus SL!

That's how you beat Chase at their own game. Let the computer auto approve you. Then move the limits where you want them.

Those UW's are ultra conservative! More so than the automated system IME.

This is where Amex, Bofa and some of the big CUs shine. I don't think you'll have any issues getting the CL's you need or want from them.

Re: Chase Freedom Unlimited CLI declined...

Hi OP

Like @gmood, I also am not a Chase White Knight.

I too closed a Chase product same day I was denied a CLI after getting the green checkmarks.

Also, just like it’s their policy and their monies and they can do as they please, it’s also the customers’ rights to take their business to a bank that appreciates them.

Good for you, OP. There’s always more fish in the sea.

Re: Chase Freedom Unlimited CLI declined...

I know it's hard not to, but don't get upset or take it personally. Chase generally isn't big on CLIs. You'll notice in comparison to the vast majority of lenders, Chase doesn't allow for CLI request online. That to me is a clue they really don't want CLI requests. They want to give CLI when they feel you deserve it and that's about it.

At least IMO, Chase always has a lending attitude of "we're doing you a favor by extending this credit account" vs appreciating good customers. Yes it's business and they have a right to have as stingy of underwriting as they wish, but as you note OP, it's easy enough to take business elsewhere!
