After reading a post about someone receiving Chase prequals I decided to check mine for fun. It came back showing I'm preapproved for any card including CSR which CANNOT be true. There's no way I qualify for that. I'm not entirely sure I need any new credit for now but if I was to get one it would be the FU, as it would really balance out my profile for the gas/dining. I don't have a good card for that. But I'm also content with my current cards to garden for 6 months since I recently opened an Amex.
Now that brings me to my question - are their prequals accurate? Why would they show the CSP and CSR for me? My highest limit on a card is 1k with ficos around 670-680. TYIA.
Edit: Oh - I wanted to add, I am 4/24 currently so that is not an issue.

I agree with you that it's strange, because on the one hand their preapprovals are usually pretty sound, and on the other hand it doesn't sound like your profile fits the prototype for the CSR.
Me I'm a risk taker, so if I had any near future travel plans, and a prequalification for the CSR, I'd jump on it. But the risk is taking 2 hard pulls for nothing.

Thanks for the response. At this time I don't travel much at all, and can't justify the annual fee. I may start traveling more in a year or two with my job but no need for travel card yet.
If I do pull the trigger it would be for the FF or FU but I'm not too familiar with Chase so I need to read about the card benefits more. I would like to start a relationship with them as I think they are top tier..
Starting Score: 580sI'll tell you what happened with me. When it was first announced that the Chase preapproval was back up, I ran to try it out. Instant denial. Tried a couple more times and same denial. I tried last Friday, approved for 5 cards. I know this couldn't be right, cause I'm over 5/24 until October. (By my calculations) I also have no preapprovals in my Chase app. So today I talked to a friend who said he was over 5/24 and pre-approved. He said eff it and applied, got a 9k CSP. I'm not that brave, so I went into a branch and straight asked if I had any preapprovals. The guy said he couldn't find any but that I could still apply. He asked me what my score was and I told him 740. He said he could guarantee that I would get approved. I told him thank you but I wasn't taking the chance until I have a preapproval in my app.

Interesting, I'm curious if there's some sort of issue going on with the prequalify page? I'm only so hesitant because it shows CSP and CSR on mine which can't be right. However, if I could get the FU I think that would really suit my spending habits and round out my card lineup.
To add I last tried the prequal maybe 2 weeks or a month ago and it showed nothing.
Starting Score: 580sTo update: I ended up applying for FU and was approved. Unfortunately I only received a $500 limit. I was really hoping for more.. even like 1-2k I woulda been happy.. I probably would have waited if I knew that would be my limit. Oh well, I'll take the $200 sub, and it's my only card for dining. Now time to garden for real... as I have no more need or desire for any other cards.
Live and learn. I need more patience.
Starting Score: 580sCongrats on the approval. At least you got your foot in the door. I'm just going to wait until they send me something in the app or a mailer. Congrats again.

@BmoreBull, Even better yet, go into a Chase branch (if that is an option?)
and speak to a "personal banker" ..those pre-approved offers, are bout as solid as they come!
Yesterday I was board so I went to chase website and signed up for free vantage score and experian credit reports I am not a chase custome, my vantage score is 821 on experian. This morning I tryed the Chase Pre approval it ask for my last 4 of SSN, it came approved for Freedom chase cst and couple of other cards. The only thing is that I burnt chase on bonth of credit account and 2 lines of credit around 1999 for about 80K. This is the first time that I seen pre approved offers from chase,I find hard to believe that I could get approved for any chase card. Is chase changeing they want to grow ther creditcard business. I don't think I am going to take chance of getting denied, Only open 2 new accounts in the last year. Fico scores are just around 798 want to get back over 800 again.

Congratulations. That's a very good card in my book. And when you do pick up a Chase travel card, you'll be able to use the UR's for travel.
There are many reports of Chase giving auto CLI's on cards which are used a lot and paid down a lot, especially at the 6-7 month point, although there are some reports of them coming even sooner. So if you use the card a lot and pay it down very fast, don't be surprised if that limit grows.
