@mgood yeah I got my CSP with I think 9 or 10 maybe 11 inquiries but that was 2013? maybe even 2012 lol
It's been a few years, but I was at 5/24 back when Chase approved me. I really believe the total picture is more important.
@MarkintheHV wrote:I wonder if this may have some merit. If you keep up with the airlines, several of the US airlines (I know Delta and AA have done this, and heard United has as well) have basically become credit card companies that fly airplanes. All the avenues to gaining status now have the major points towards status being geared towards spend on their credit cards. Delta is on track to earn $7 billion dollars from AmEx alone this year. Given this, I could see airlines not being happy with too many stiff rules about becoming credit card members since this now has such a major effect on revenue.
I also think it's entirely possible there's more leniency with co-branded cards. That's really fascinating on the airline revenue thing - I've vented on here before over AmEx's blatant refusal to give me a $1K credit line, be that Delta or anything else. You'd think Delta (or AmEx for that matter) would be a little more open to making money off passengers that way, instead of telling them to get lost... It's a big reason I've shifted more loyalty towards United AND American. Someone once compared to not getting accepted for a golf membership, because a person on the panel prefers Tommy Bahama and you wore Ralph Lauren to the interview...
I'm going out on a limb here again to say don't be deterred by metrics and statistics like these. If I listened to ANYONE on this forum, I wouldn't have my Quest Visa - credit history, past bankruptcy, 5/24, scores, and most every other thing would tell you I'd never, EVER get approved. But I also don't give up so easily...

Just out of curiosity, did you have to go through reconsideration for your Quest Visa? I am assuming that you werent under 5/24 and had other issues. I would love to get in with United (even through business) but definitely above 5/24
Well I gave it shot today.....
Denied since I'm at 7/24. Supposedly that was the only reason according to the recon line.
I'll give it another shot in August / September when I'm at 4/24.
One pull on Experian.

@madcap3693 thank you for your data points! Sorry to hear about your getting declined, and may you get this and/or better cards down the road. It's helpful to hear your data points, including the reason(s) for rejection and the bureau they pulled.
About a couple years ago I tried my luck at a Southwest card when I was over 5/24 (and when I started hearing that Chase was getting more lenient on co-branded cards, Amazon's in particular). It seems that Chase goes through periods of leniency with 5/24 on at least a few cards, before going back to enforcing the rule on most of them.
Speaking only for myself, I'd be leery about getting into a points system if the only way I could earn those points with a credit card is through Chase. But maybe I'd feel differently if I had spent more of the past 2 years gardening. 🪴
Well yesterday my new cards opened in the past 24 months dropped down to five from seven.
I saw a great offer for the United Explorer card on the United app for 65,000 miles after 3K spend in three months. I had my doubts I would get approved since I was rejected at 7/24 but figured the offer was worth taking another inquiry ding. I crossed my fingers and applied...
I was automatically approved and with a nice $19,500 credit limit!!
I'm shocked, but happy I took another gamble and got approved at 5/24. I'm thinking maybe it might be easier to get an approval for this card or other chase chase when there is an agressive new member bonus because they are really looking for new accounts.
