Just as an aside, the MileagePlus Explorer card, if approved, does not have a $5,000 SL requirement. The Platinum version minimum SL is $2,000 while the Visa Signature is $5,000. But, on the upside, it's still pre-approved so there is that.
Taking a stab is entirely up to you. Things to consider, is the AF waived the first year? Does the credit make sense given the lower mileage SUB with this offer versus waiting for a different or higher SUB? The value is based upon how you'll use the card and how often you travel as well.
Thanks @FinStar for that clarification. I appreciate the info about the SL.
Fortunately, the offer does waive the annual fee for the first year. I travel transcon domestically in a typical year around 4 times between United hubs. This year I only have two such flights currently scheduled. Also, as a skier, that free checked bag would cover $70 of the card's annual fee on at least one round-trip ticket every year.
At 1 cent per mile (It seems like UA miles are worth a bit more than that), the $250 statement credit + 35,000 mile bonus would at least equal the 60,000 mile offer.
Talking/typing through this in real time with my fellow card enthusiasts helps me gain perspective.
Glad to hear the offer has no-AF for the first year @quikj9. Now that you've analyzed its overall value based on how it fits your spending and the benefits, have you submitted the application? 😜. These offers don't last long!
Always check www.uscreditcardguide.com for best offers on a particular card. They have a chart that has a history of the offers. Currently, it is showing 70,000 miles and $0 AF first year if you if you use the right link.

As for your question to the community, usually a solid APR is a good sign. I would apply however only with the best offer available. Why leave $$$ (or miles) on the table?
"Up to 70,000 bonus miles
60,000 bonus miles after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months your account is open**
Plus, earn an additional 10,000 bonus miles after you spend $6,000 total on purchases in the first 6 months your account is open**"
@FinStar I haven't pulled the trigger yet as much as I want to! Thinking that it might be best to wait until after Discover reports my new CL later in the month to show that I have another card with a higher CL. Or does that not really matter, given the preapproval?
@randomguy1 Thanks a bunch for that link and recommendation! I bookmarked your post so I can refer to it for all of my applications moving forward. 70k is the way to go for sure.

I had been watching this card for awhile. I knew that 60k-70k SUBs happen, so I wasn't going to apply when the SUB was 40k. One time when I logged in to my UAL account I saw a similar offer to this one, but I'm thinking it was $250/25k MileagePlus points. I was after MP points, so I didn't take it.
I ended up taking this offer:

I was just approved a couple days ago, and I have not yet received the card. I'm looking forward to getting and using it! I am an expat living in Africa and I don't know if I'll be able to hit the MSR for the SUB organically, but it is tax time. It will be easy!
I already received the two free United Club passes.
@MrT_521 That's awesome! I'm glad you were able to hold out for such a good offer. Congrats on your approval as well.
I'm going to wait a week or so for my Discover card to report its new limit then pull the trigger. Hopefully, the bonus you received is still available and my pre-approval doesn't fail me!
So...I guess the mods can close this thread now, as this just happened:
I'm a bit in shock at the limit and approval. Thanks to everyone in this thread who helped guide me towards this approval. I'm off to the Approvals forum to detail my DP's there for current and future reference.
Congrats, enjoy the miles.
@randomguy1 Thanks! I chickened out on using your link for the bonus. I just got the $250 + 35k miles bonus that was included in my preapproval. I maybe stupidly thought that might help my chances of approval.
