Hello,
I recently applied for a CLI for my CB Double Cash card and was denied due to "insufficient information on Home Equity line of credit" but I am renter so I was confused.
I called and the rep said that is the information they received. I have to write a letter to CB, they would "play my lawyer" and contact Equifax.
Has anyone else experienced this? How did it end?
Hi and welcome to the forums!
If you don't have one and there is no erroneous Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) on your Equifax report then there is nothing to dispute.
Either Citi is mistaken or Citi is using the lack of a HELOC in your credit profile as a bogus excuse to not grant a CLI at this time -- and the rep simply misunderstood the denial reason
Have you reviewed your Equifax report?

Just be careful in disputing anything with Equifax ... You could open a can of worms.
Yes and there was nothing there. I double checked with an equifax rep. I wanted a copy of what they saw and they will not share with me.
Oh wow. Can you share more details? I feel like CB should take more responsibility but of course they won't.

Then you have nothing to dispute and there is absolutely nothing Equifax can do for you in this case.
Honestly just sounds like Citi just didn't want to increase your limit right now and didn't really have a good reason as to why so blamed it on the lack of a HELOC. You wouldn't be the first to recieve a nonsensical denial reason.
If you want, you can call Citi again on Monday and ask to speak with a credit analyst for reconsideration.

EQ is just a bit more quirky when it comes to disputes and it sometimes makes matters worse - but It also depends on what's being disputed - it's usually only problematic when disputing negative items for accuracy.

And Citi saw the same report you would pull yourself - the data is no different. If you want to view the most comprehensive version of your Equifax report, you can pull it for free from annualcreditreport.com. That will be identical to what Equifax would provide you by mail.
Thank you, I did it and nothing related to home equity/mortgage. What would do in my position? Just want opinions.

I'd honestly probably do nothing and just wait 30 days and request a cli again.
Like I stated earlier, you can always contact citi and ask to speak with a credit specialist for clarity and possible reconsideration on your denial.
