Do I stand a chance with Citi?

Hi All!

I've been reading numerous dp's but wanted to ask if I stand any chance with getting a cc with Citi any time soon? My current scores are EX 691 TU 712 EQ 723. However, I have a crap ton of inq - EX 33 TU 17 EQ 22. I had a checking account with them in the past but I didn't use it because the closest branch was in NYC and I live in NJ. I was paying my rent in cash at the time and they wouldn't increase my daily atm withdrawal limit so I opened an account with my local CU and stopped using Citi's and after while they closed it. I would like to replace my QS1 with the DC because Cap1 won't seem to let me out of the subprime world.

Thanks!!

Are any of those inquiries from rate-shopping for a loan?  If so, if coded correctly they'd be viewed as a single inquiry.

8 on EX were from a car loan in 5/18 and EQ has another 4 just recently for a refinance on that same loan.

Have you checked online for any pre-qualified offers?

How's the rest of your profile... accounts, utilization, AAoA? Any negatives?

The inquiries might play a role, but if all else is optimal then it's possible that it can play out. The checking account should not hinder your chances unless it ended on a bad note.

@FinStar

I currently have 6 revolving (one is a CLOC) and 2 installments (one auto, one student) all positive no lates on those. I do have one 30 day late on a paid off car loan from 2/17 but that late isn't showing on EQ for some reason. My utilization is 1% but my AAoA is only 6 months due to my recent rebuild. Experian says my DTI is 16%. I've checked for prequals with many banks but I have never received any, even with the cards I have now they were all cold apps. Recently was denied by Barclays because of inquiries and recon was an epic fail.

Ok.  The only thing that could place quite a bit of weight on this would be the late payment from a couple years ago.  And, since your AAoA appears to be a bit on the short end coupled with the inquries, it might be a bit of a challenge to pull the trigger at this point in time.  Your utilization seems to be in check along with the scores, which I'm assuming those are FICOs?

Is the goal with obtaining a Citi CC something that has to happen right away or something that can wait for a bit until things optimize?

Re: Do I stand a chance with Citi?

@FinStar correct those are my FICO 08 scores as of yesterday. I can certainly wait if it will give me a better chance because I already have so many inq with none dropping off anytime soon. I was trying to find a bank that will pull TU since it has the least amount of recent damage. EQ too possibly because the late isn't showing but from what I know, only credit unions pull exclusively EQ but PenFed and NFCU have been having their way with my EQ report lol. My income is only 52k not sure if that's what holding me back from higher SL's.

Re: Do I stand a chance with Citi?

You're getting there and it sounds like your rebuild is heading in the right direction based on those improved FICO scores plus the CCs you've been approved recently - so kudos on those achievements.  I would say give things a breather until your AAoA is >1 year and the inquiries' impact diminishes over time.  Your income should not be an issue.

Some other potential contenders that have a bit more flexibility with UW and can be considered: SYNCB PayPay 2% Cashback (they typically pull TU), BB&T Cash Rewards (EQ puller), possibly AmEX, or another NAVY CC (once the 1st one has aged considerably).

Anytime.  Yes, save those HPs for meaningful applications or goals for down the road.  When you get closer to the timeframe, simply let us know so we can provide some guidance based on where you are in your rebuild and whatnot Smiley Happy
