I have a chase business account that I have had for a few months I want to apply for either Ink or frankly any personal chase card and start a relationship with Chase. My fico 8 is currently at 652 and Fico 9 is 673. I think I am just slightly below what chase usually approves these cards for. Does applying for these cards in branch with a manager improve it as in if they find that the only problem was a credit card I paid off 4 years ago and they can manually approve the application or is this a thing of the past?
While I don't know if there is any hard evidence proving your question one way or another, applying in the branch *seemed* to work for me.
I burned Chase for north of ten-grand back in my 2015 Chapter 13 filing and through late last year their preapproval site only suggested I could open up a savings account. For a variety of reasons I was compelled to open up Chase Savings and Checking accounts and during the application process the banking associate asked me if I'd also like a credit card. I figured "in for a penny, in for a pound" and asked for a Sapphire Preferred; BANG, approved with a starting limit of $11,700. Yeah, I was surprised.
@harveyc7890You have 3 threads around the forum asking about applying with your scores. Wait till you hit 700. Clean up was holding you down in the 600's.
There's no doubt some people have had better luck with approvals when applying in branch, but, Chase's UW department still does the approving, or denying, not anyone at the branch. As I commented on one of your past posts in the Business Credit thread, I wouldn't recommend applying until your Fico 8 scores are 700+. I've seen people get approvals with scores in the 670s, but those aren't as common and generally come with lower a SL.
Maybe you don't care how much the approval is for, and would be happy with any approval and that's completely fine. You can always throw caution to the wind and simply apply sooner rather than later to get this out of your system. Maybe you'll get it, and maybe you won't. But, waiting until your scores and file improve some more will likely improve your approval odds considerably, as well as the potential for a higher starting limit. let us know how it goes and best of luck!
So I went to the branch and they could look to see if I was preapproved for any offer and I wasn't so I decided not to apply. Its getting challenging getting to the 700 because I dont know any other secured cards that fit the criteria that I can opt for.

Which secured cards do you have now and what is your criteria for a new one?

1. Welcome to the forum.
2. Yes applying in a branch does improve your chances.
3. No they don't manually approve it.
4. I would suggest waiting until your scores are higher.
I think any card that has a chance of being unsecured in 6 months or less and doesn't have any annual fee is a primary factor. Ideally, a well known bank that has sought after travel cards so the relationship with the bank pays out would be a seconary factor. Capital one fit that profile fairly well so I got a capital one a few months back and I have had Chime which has honestly been useless for the last few years. Capitalone did raise my score by about 30-40 points or so but then it has been stagnant. I looked into NFCU which could be handy a few years down the line but don't really know anyone that can qualify me. I think Affinity seems like a good candidate from what I have been looking into here.
