Re: First time credit card applicant, nervous!

I decided to go into Suntrust and speak with a representative about card options. I applied and was instantly approved for a $2,800 CL.

Thanks everyone for your input and help! I think this will be a good way for me to start establish some revolving credit and I can work towards the Amex BCE next.

Just some information I found out, since I saw that there weren't many posts on here about people actually applying for Suntrust cards and what scores they use. The credit score they pulled was my EQ Bankcard which is 654, a lot lower than my regular FICO 8 scores. I'm glad I was still approved and can now work to improving my credit scores / history.

Thanks again!

Just make sure when your statement cuts and reports to the credit bureaus that the balance is less than 9% of your available credit, you'll see an increase. Maybe check to see if you are pre-qualified for the Discover IT card with the cash back option would give you a second one to increase scores faster. Just my two cents.

Starting Score: EQ497/TU496/EX 499
Currently: EQ 620 TU 654 EX 627

Congratulations, and good luck with it.

BTW there are 3 EQ Bankcard score models; you're probably referring to Bankcard 5, but there are also Bankcard 8 and Bankcard 9.
