I want an AMEX card but do not want a hard pull or denial. I am pre-approved existing customer

I always wanted a green card (status symbol in my youthful days). I can easily spend 2K in the next few months. I have a gold, platinum business, blue cash rewards all in good standing, all used frequently. Will they do a hard pull? My last AMEX card was about a 10 months ago.

I have read where sometimes they deny if AMEX believes the card will not be used or I have reached my credit limit with them? I have probaby 75K in credit limits with AMEX now. I have a FICO 8 of 840, 0% utilization, incmome north of $225,000. Am I concerned about nothing?

 Thanks for the insight here

Unfortunately there are no guarantees, only opportunities to help guess your likely odds of approval.

Since you are an existing cardholder there would probably be  no hard pull if you applied but it is definitely not a 100% ironclad guarantee (I speak from experience).

If you haven't logged onto the website and clicked through to check to see if you have a preapproval on the Green Card I suggest you do so.

If you check there are 2 possible responses,  one is of the form "tjs19593, you're preapproved!" and the other is of the form "Expanding your relationship with us is easy, tjs19593".  The former is a preapproval (but not a guaranteed approval) and the other is *not*.

Preapprovals are solid, but like the odds of only taking a soft pull if you apply an approval is not guaranteed.

My experience with multiple of their cards is that every card after the first was a SP. And I have 4 active cards from them, was 5 but I cancelled my Gold card because I couldn't justify  account charge during covid.

My message in my AMEX app says  "tjs31959 you are pre-approved!"

That means the odds are very much that you will be approved with only a soft pull.   As I mentioned above though that is not a guaranteed outcome.

Applied and approved in 15 seconds for a green card. Added my wife to account and was also instanty approved. Thanks for the help all!
