Interesting Recon Attempt with AMEX

About a week or two ago I got the 50K PRG offer to come up so decided to apply. I was denied and was just going to wait it out for a few months and try again, but decided to go ahead and call since I had already taken the HP.

The lady I spoke too said that she reviewed my application/credit report and to her it was a good report, they pulled a 699 score and my income was fine ($70K) and that she would love to approve me for the card, but they cannot reconsider the application because now AMEX is requiring a 715 credit score in order to qualify. I asked her if this was something new as I've seen others on here get approved with under a 715 score and she stated that this was something new AMEX is doing now.

She advised me to wait 2-3 months and once I had that 715 I would have no problem getting approved. I have not heard about this so wondering if anyone else has come across this or if I should call and speak with a different rep?

Re: Interesting Recon Attempt with AMEX

+1 I asked about product change and they told me that my performance with them is giving me an in and they would not have approved me for my cards if I had applied for them now. There might be some wiggle room but you have to have all of your American Express accounts open for a year not one year old and the other one 6 months old like myself they kind of go by your newest card when you're borderline

That's interesting. I would call again and see if you get the same info from a different rep.

Re: Interesting Recon Attempt with AMEX

I don't know about the rest of my FICO's but my Barclay FICO shows 705 and I was just approved for this same offer via recon. It is possible my Experian FICO is more than my Transunion but not sure.

Good luck though and thanks for sharing!

Re: Interesting Recon Attempt with AMEX

So I just called back and spoke to a different rep who mentioned absolutely nothing about the credit score. She said that they could review my application again and I would be receving a call back once they review. I should've asked to be transferred to someone who could've done it right there on the phone. But I'll be patient and wait for the call back. Lets see what happens.

Re: Interesting Recon Attempt with AMEX

Yeah, I thought that was weird, from what I've heard you can't talk to their credit department for recon, and that it requires another hard pull..

Re: Interesting Recon Attempt with AMEX

I think we need more than the word of a single CSR who may or may not have a clue before we can place any stock in this. In fact, I'm willing to bet that we will continue to see approvals for people with an EX score below the 715 threshold.
