Kohl's CLI

Opinions please.

Just paid off $220 balance on my Kohl's card with a $300 CL. I want to ask for a CLI. Is it best to call in and talk to someone or hit the button from the website? Does it take time for them internally to see that I paid it off? For example i just payed it today should I wait a day or so to ask for CLI or am I good to go? Also I've carried a balance on this card for about 18 months, ever since I first opened the card, I accidentally had one late payent that didnt reach 30 days so not reported to bureaus but I got a late fee from Kohl's... will that factor into their decision? Thanks.

When was the late payment?  I don't know about Kohl's cause I've never been late with them, but I know from the regular Cap 1 website that they will turn you down if there has been a late payment in the last 12 months.  Since it didn't report late, I can't answer about that.  I've gotten increases even when I might have had a balance, so that doesn't factor into it.  The only time I called in about an increase was when they sent me a letter in the mail saying they would increase my limit from $700 to $1500, otherwise I've used secure messaging.  Hope that helps.

The late payment was about 6 months ago. I was only a few days late and did not go anywhere near 30 days, resulting in just a fee from Kohl's. Thanks for the info KayKay

Re: Kohl's CLI

I would say go for it, from experience it's a SP. If they deny it may be the late payment but it's 6 months old so if you've been on time since then you stand a good chance. Hit the button on the website, it's usually instant

Well to update... I was denied. Darn. I hope it was only a SP.

Fingers crossed is right! Thank you. I'm just a little bummed because this CLI (even a small one) was part of my plan to increase my total credit limit and drop my overall utilization, I'm getting ready for a little app spree soon. But it might have to wait a month or so now. Maybe more if it was a HP.

Re: Kohl's CLI

If I pay off a balance, I usually wait until the next billing cycle goes through, let it report to the bureaus with a $0 balance, wait a few more days, then I will usually try for a CLI with an account that I had currently had a balance with. But again as with credit, YMMV!

Dang it and I was rooting for you...Look at the letter they send it's usually the age of the account they may quote or possibly that late payment...You'll get it and once you do, you'll reach the max ceiling rather quickly.

Re: Kohl's CLI

That's exactly what I should have done. That luv button is just so contagious sometimes. That's what I mean by my app spree might have to wait now. Let my balances report as $0 and try again for the CLI (you have to wait 31 days after denial with Kohl's) and then wait another billing cycle for that CLI to report to the bureaus. Then app spree time. Thank for the insight !
