I just applied online for membership (EQ locked) and was instantly approved for savings and checking. I'll have to say this was the fastest (under 2 minutes start to finish), fictionless application ever. I got a text from EQ of a SP.
Question is, I want to apply for the signature CC, are they gonna use the report they soft pulled or do I have to unlock for a HP? What are the odds of approval? DP EQ5 781, 11 inquiry last 12 months. 2 new accounts last 12 months.

Yes you got to unlock your credit to apply for said card. I am actually shocked your were approved for membership with said CRA froozen. You can't beat the system. Credit is always a gamble and only 1 HP that last 12 months so what difference is 1 HP going to really make? So what were other HP given only two new accounts were they for CLI's, mortgages or some denials, etc? Only one way to know if you think your profile is what langley seeks. Scores isnt all they look for as been declined > 800 score(few years back and tried two times for card, once a year before that approx) while others are approved with high 600 or early 700 scores. Different lenders seek different things. No one can give you an answer whether you will be approved or not.

Long story. Rookie mistake, car dealer loan application, you know how that goes.
file is decent. AAoA 6+ years. 8 total accounts, revolving, installment, etc.
Anyways, I went ahead and applied EQ still locked, got an, "we will contact you in 1 business day message". Best case scenario approved with no HP; worse case scenario denied with no HP. If they ask to unlock for further consideration, ill cross that bridge when I get there.
Ohh and 1 HP was from a Truist in-branch double applications few days ago. Instant approvals $11k on each card.

Getting approved with your bureaus locked, you might have better odds winning the lottery ...just sayin.
If you really want to get approved, apply with your credit unlocked. A "HP" is not the end of the world. Trust Me.

I'm not sure why you think it's that far fetched. They already pulled my report a few minutes earlier for membership - albeit a soft pull

Membership and credit card approvals are two different animals. Out of around 15-18 credit unions I belong to, I have only had one soft pull approval for $25K then a SP CLI to $50K ...they were invitations by email. A very rare bird indeed.
Good Luck on your journey.

Yea you should listen to him. He is right when he tells you to unlock your report. A SP will not cut it here. I have the signature card that I applied for after I got my account and I thought the same thing you did but they came back and said unlock it . A HP is not the end of the world.
Ok. Thanks for your inputs. I'll unlock it and wait for their call

1. Yes you need to unlock your report.
2. If it truly was a SP, then yes they're going to need a HP for the credit card.
3. I don't know what your odds of approval are, but the only thing that you've mentioned that is negative is the large number of inquiries, and in my experience Langley is not especially inquiry sensitive.
