I just wanted to throw this out there for anyone wondering. I've been playing and experimenting with my disco IT to see what CLI's I can get and how frequently. They are by far my largest credit line, and I have become a litle partial to using my disco for most purchases. But here's the story for anyone wondering.
App'd on Aug 20 2017. I went back to look at my reports and can't see the inquiry on any of them, so I can't share who they pulled . But I can say my scores across all bureaus were around 685 during that time. At that point I had 4 cards, $700, $500, $500, and $200, so not a lot of wiggle room for spending without many payments. Large purchases were just painful. I also had an auto loan. My AAoA was around 3 yrs. I only had 2 inquiries for a mortgage. Disco approved me for $9500.
I was shocked, and pleasantly surprised.
I used the card as my primary, moving about $1500 through it each month, and even taking advantage of the 0% interest to carry a couple of large balances. The highest I reported on this card was 32%, which caused my score to drop a bit (nothing like experiencing something first hand to see the effects). Around the 60 day mark (late Oct.) I requested a CLI and was denied, I suspect because of the drop in score. So I brought my utilization down and waited. Finally I felt like I was at a good point in my relationship with disco to try for some more luv just after my Jan statement cut, and BAM, approval for $4000 increase . Again, pleasantly surprised. I tried double dipping, but they said it would requre a HP, so I let it be because I was going to be doing *something* with my car (refi, sell/buy new, lease, who knew, but something). So I left well enough alone there. But a week later, I tried again, denied. A week later, again, denied. I wanted to see where the point was that they would give me some more luv. It was a game now. I got the two letters in the mail explaining that I had insufficient history with the current credit line. Finally, two weeks into Feb, I realize I hadn't tried in a couple of weeks, so I hit the luv button, and APPROVED. Another increase. $700 this time, a tiny increase in comparison. I'm sure the short period of time has something to do with it. I'll keep trying to see where I can get it, I want to be above $20k by the end of '18, but we shall see!
TL;DR - I app'd in August '17 approved for $9500. Hit luv in Jan '18, got $4000 increase (total CL $13,500). Then mashed the heck outta the luv button and finally in mid Feb '18 got another CLI of $700, for a new total of $14,200.
I'll update this as I get increases for all to see.
....never too long!

I got my Discover card 3 years ago, with a $1k starting limit. The limit has inched its way up to $7100, in $300 increments (don't laugh). They don't trust me much for some reason. Even when my scores were over 800.

One thing I didn't mention and completely meant to was that I did carry a balance for these 6 months because of the 0% APR offer at sign up. At one point I had a 32% util. but dropped it to around 15%. I think it was at about 25% when they gave me the $4000 increase.
I've seen some people report that they PIF and only ever get little bumps. I'm going to get it to zero with the end of the 0% coming up here soon, and after a few months, I'm going to attempt another CLI. I'll see what they say then, to see if it's a big difference.

SJ, have you ever thought to close it, give it a month or two than reapp. Maybe they'll give you $7200 sl.
But in seriousness, if you dont care about the history, try it, nothing to lose, if anything you get a lesser sl, we can just call it the South Jamaica Effect, maybe even cast Ashton again
I do care about the history, trying to avoid unnecessary hard pulls and new accounts. I may close it one of these days, but it won't be so that I can reapply.
In all honesty I'm not really interested in Discover. The only feature it has of interest to me is the good balance transfer offers which I now get with regularity. Even that isn't very interesting since the limit is so small.
But worrying about what category is going to get me the big rewards is not my thing.
@Anonymous reason I applied for Discover, the ONLY reason, was the @baller4life thread on the 'gravy train', which was the most fun thread I've seen on MyFICO. I wanted to play.
Since the 'gravy train' ended around the same time I got my Discover IT card, having the card has not been too much fun. Except of course when AJC writes about the South Jamaica Effect.
Where is this gravy train thread!?😁😁😁
