Hi all, I just applied for my 2nd NFCU card, expecting a relatively high SL based on others experiences. I've had goCash (green signature) for well over a year, used it a lot and low util. SL was 6k now at 11.6k. I applied for a 25k personal loan with NFCU earlier today and was approved. An hour later I used the prequal feature for credit cards and it said I was prequalified for all of them, including Flagship. I chose to apply for the Platinum as need it for a balance transfer of 0% APR thats running out with a Penfed card. Was thinking surely I'd get at least 5k (what I need for BT). Approved- with 1k SL! Not sure if the loan is at play here or what, but a 1k card is useless to me and I want to minimise new accounts. By the time the CL would increase, I wouldn't be able to BT. I'm now consiering taking another HP and applying for the Flagship, as it did say I was preapproved and I know that has a minimum SL of 5k. It would still be usefull for me as I need to buffer out my util and if don't get a 0% APR BT card elsewhere, the lower APR of the Flagship would still be useful.
But, I'm worried that applying for a third card immediately won't work? Should I call NFCU and cancel the just approved Platinum first, or will it not make a difference?
Any advice very welcome!

you won't be approved for another card for 91 days, the same amount of time it will take the card to be CLI'd, not exactly helpful and you still wouldn't be able to do you BT onto it.
what you can do is secure message nfcu and tell them you need to move limit from your cash rewards to your platinum for A BT, they should be willing to accommodate that request, just let them know how much you'd like to move over from the other card.
As mentioned you won't be approved for another card. Additionally, the loan certainly influenced the card SL. You were just approved for 25k and then immediately applied for more credit. This no doubt threw up some caution flags which resulted in the low CL.
Thank you, that's incredibly helpful. I wasn't sure if they were a bank that allows you to get two cards in quick succession or not, but its good to know that applyign for another card before 91 days is useless.
I will certainly contact them and ask for the reallocation to move some over to new card and hope they can accomodate. I did like having the cashRewards at 11.6k as it has allowed me to keep it at 8% or less, but in this situation it is more important to be able to BT so will redistribute funds if they let me and just hope in future both cards can get further CLIs
@GZG , do you know if I need to wait to get the card in the mail and activate it to ask them to reallocate some funds from my existing card?

no idea, will just have to secure message them and ask
I received 25k on my first card with Navy. I was expecting the first one to be low because Navy was known for the second card to be 25k... Well, my second card (which was actually my first choice), I received 1k...
As of today, that 1k card is now 30k.

As @pakratus stated, NFCU cards grow quickly as long as you use them right.
In my opinion the 28% revolving utilization influenced the lower SL more than the PL. But, I think this was simply a case of too much too soon. I would have waited 6 months and showed some payment history on that PL before applying for anything else.
If I were you, I'd garden. That said, the card will grow in time.

I'm reasonably sure closing the platinum card won't make a difference.
I think you're stuck at the moment, and just need to wait awhile.
