I hear what everyone is saying - and perhaps that's the case - but it sure doesn't seem like NFCU has been playing that game with most CLIs I've seen. Regardless: I make $50k base and my scores - which I need to update in my siggy - are all above 680. Kinda weird $10k wouldn't be justified. We shall see!

You can't always compare your CLI's, credit application approval or denials to other members.  The best you can do is put yourself in the best position for approvals on CLI's and application approvals.  I've witnessed people with bankruptcies getting awesome CC's, loans, great APR's, etc and sometimes the state income makes you go crazy BUT it's always up to the creditor.  Trust me there are folks who make $200k and I wouldn't extend them a $4k CC limit, neither will some financial institutions.  What I guess I'm saying is don't get caught up on trying to force an issue when you have the opportunity to really create a great banking relationship.  If you spend too much time trying to keep saying "I make $50k with an above 680 FICO", you will miss the threads where folks with six figure incomes and 700 FICO's being denied increases from time to time.  A 680 tells us all you "may" still have something holding you back on your credit reports that NFCU might see.  Principle?  That's your choice but if it's no biggie, do it like a Disney song and "Let it go, Let it go...."

FICO scores are your calling card to the business world. Build a negative reputation and those doors are hard to open, find that perfect balance of credit responsibility and those doors open when you desire them.

Keep your head up. I can tell you that once you have had the card a while, the income you are stating will be enough to get higher limits from them Smiley Happy they just want some history first.

To be fair it sounds like they declined you because the income you reported did not match the income on your taxes. So it could very well be that you *would* be eligible for 10k based on your gross, you just need to try again using only your income. Smiley Happy
