NFCU

I just joined the NFCU thanks to my DW. I did so through the phone application process. I did read that they did HP for approvals. But according to the representative on the phone she advised it was a SP check. So it may take up to 3-5 business days to verify DW credentials. And after that process I plan on applying for a CC. Any particular ones that I should consider? I’ll probably be leaning towards low % with rewards. I believe I saw that their not too worried about inquires is this true? I have 7 on EQ, 4 on TU, and 6 on EX. My Fico 8 score as follows EQ 698, TU 685, and EX 660. Any ideas what bureaus they use for FL residents on CC pulls? Thanks in advance everyone and thanks for all the great advise given.

Re: NFCU

Welcome to Navy.

Usually, it's been soft pull for membership.

They primarily pull Transunion 9 for new CC application. They've been known to switch it up.

Get a card that will not be redundant to your current lineup. All their cards are good.

They are not too inquiry sensitive as long as you have decent income and low DTI.

Re: NFCU

Thanks very much for your reply. Do they require POI? I’m a member of another CU and they required it when I applied for credit. It was some time ago.

Re: NFCU

No POI required unless you make an insane amount of money that would be questionable.

Re: NFCU

Yeah well it’s not insane. But what’s insane income? Some people think 100k is insane. While over a million is insane for me.

Re: NFCU

I'm not sure what Navy would consider insane. If income is +-$100k I think you're good to go. Data points show no POI required for that amount.

Yes, I agree. A million would be insane.

Re: NFCU

Wow I just applied for the go rewards and was only approved for 1k. That’s unbelievably low. I’m very shocked how low it was. You were right they checked TU. I was expecting something much higher. I mean at least 5k would have been acceptable but 1k.

Re: NFCU

Forgot to mention, the Flagship CC is a little harder to get based on ones credit worthiness. It starts off at 5K minimum. So take that into consideration when choosing a card. Some opt that as a 2nd or 3rd card choice.
