I am getting ready to apply for some new cards and on one of the pre-approval forms it auto populated the answers with my maiden name. I was married in 2016 offical name change late 2016. On that pre-approval it showed quite a few good mile card options with sign up bonuses.
When I corrected to my current married name, all the miles cards were gone and the options were much less attractive.
Anyone run into this before or have any suggestions?
Thanks!
Emily
Yes this has been case on occasion people performing name changes whether due to marriage/divorce, legally, etc. that sometimes the prequals don't even work at all for them. In your credit reports is your name change reflected there as well to all 3 bureaus?
EQ and EX are showing both TU is showing only maiden name.
I have updated my last name with all my creditors not sure why TU has not added new married name over a year later?
Any way around this I *really* want those bonus miles and we've got a Delta vacation coming up. All the other card options seem to be better under maiden name as well.
Considering it's technically the same identity/person you could just change your last name on the application before submitting when the prequals populate with your maiden name. I don't see how that would be in any way fishy since it's still you just with a different last name due to your marriage.
Thank you. Followed pre-approval link and updated to correct married name on actual app. Approved with a 10,000k CL with the 50,000k bonus miles. Wahoo!!

Hahaha that's awesome congrats! It's a nice datapoint to have now for future reference if anyone else is in a similar situation.
My wife and I got married in Nov. Both her married and maiden name show pre-qualification offers. However, I legally changed my first name in April 2017. IF a prequalification works for me, it's only ever in my old name. My new name never shows prequalifications. Both of our names show on our credit reports properly. It's definitely up in the air, lol.
