No idea.
I joined 8 months ago and they haven't verified anything.
My dad and stepmother are both veterans so I don't care if they do verify... but I've never been asked for any documentation.
Did you just join and have to give a member number or name as reference?

Nope.
I just called customer service and told them I wanted to join and that my parents were veterans.
As said though... they've never asked for proof... but I do have it just in case.

Yes, they don't even ask the name of the relative, just their branch of service. Navy relies mostly on the honor system. But they can and have done audits, and having all your accounts shut down probably isn't very fun. So it's also smart to have proof, like you do.
For those who don't know, veterans, or their next of kin after they've passed, can request a copy of the DD214 through the National Archive. That's proof. And it's free, though not always quick.
I just joined last weekend. My dad was in the Army. They did not ask for anything, just what branch of the military he was in. I did get my Dad's dd214 (discharge paperwork) and my birth certificate. I was a little annoyed, if I had known it was just honor system, I would have joined sooner. This was in a branch so the lady scanned the dd214 and my birth certificate and added it to my online internal file. That made me feel better. I have several other family members that are going to join through my membership. I just didn't want to jeopardize their memberships as well.

I was a little annoyed if I had known it was just an honor system — NFCU 100% performs verification of all information provided, no "honor" system. Think of it like trust but verify, they trust you and will perform the checks in a couple of days/months. If you're lying, it will be known, and all assets and accounts will be frozen.
Excellent job for getting that documentation uploaded, just in case.
10 months and they haven't asked me for any verification... but will let you know when they do.

Sorry your post is a little confusing. Are you saying you're annoyed that its an honor system?
I applied for my first CLI since my card graduated 6 months ago. I waited 186 days just to be safe and was approved for the 3x max making my limit 6k as my limit was 2k when I asked for the increase. I love NFCU, in one year I went from a $200 secured card to a 6k unsecured, added a 3k SSL, and just got a 33k auto loan 8 months into my membership. I started my credit build in Feb 2022 with a blank file and in one year with the help of MyFico I have succeeded in a successful build.
Congrats. I'm planning on doing something similar... getting a 3x CLI on my now unsecured CC in another 4 months and also have plans to refi my auto loan with NFCU once my reports go clean later this year.
Really glad I joined.
