@M_Smart007  When did Navy tighten up the reigns on the CLOC? I opened mine in 2013 and back then it was encouraged to ask for 15k from the start. Is this a COVID thing?

I believe they started tightening up over a year ago ..IIRC

Took Me a Total of (3) HP's from start 5/2019 to $15K ..Smiley Indifferent

"NFCU CLOC doesn't count towards FICO 8/9 UTIL%, correct?"

I'm stuck at 3k and have wanted to ask for 15k CLI, but after hearing all the declines, including myself, I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

@TheFIGuy, I am not 100% sure?

That would certainly be one for @Anonymous to give us a correct answer?

"Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards"

@M_Smart007  @TheFIGuy it is important to be able to figure correct utilization when considering a CLI or additional card. Version 8 seems to count all revolvers, including LOCs in revolving utilization, while EQ8 additionally considers national bankcard utilization separately and then HELOC utilization in many different ways separately, from analysis of negative Reason Codes.

Did I mess up? I forgot the order for new app/CLI to be honest, but anyway, I apped for a More Rewards (and was approved! Albeit for only $1k) card. I tried asking for a CLI online on my secured nRewards afterwards, but it said it was unable to process and to call their customer service number. Did I mess up?

Is a $1k Navy approval borderline kinda like an Amex $1k approval? Is bucketing a thing with Navy? Will it still grow quickly?

Thanks in advance to any answers.

Congratulations on your approval!

I haven't heard of NFCU bucketing cards. It'll grow.

Thank you! And that's good to know, but my next question is: how quickly will it grow? I was really hoping for one of those amazing $20-$25k SLs that seem to be the norm with Navy. Smiley LOL

@OmarGB9  I totally agree with @Mr_Mojo_Risin, no buckets! I have a CR ($21K), Platinum ($18K) and went for the third card MR in September. Instantly approved (yaay!) for $1K (ugh!). I guess they were underwelmed with my request haha!! I'll be trying for a CLI at the end of December so I'm hoping it will grow.

I'll give you an update either way!!! Fingers crossed that we both see some growth on the cards in 2021! Smiley Wink

Thanks @Anonymous ! Did your CR and Plat start low? And yes let us/me know whether they approve your CLI!

Another question, for anyone that wants to answer/knows the answer: can I apply for a CLOC with same HP, and if so, is my TU score good enough for approval (TU9 score only off by a few points from TU8 score in sig)? DTI around 35%, 3 unpaid COs, 5 paid COs, 1 collection. Income ~$70k.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

Another question: is it possible to recon an SL? I mean I already sent them a message anyway, but just wondering what my odds are. I believe I've seen a few success stories of people reconing their initial limit with Navy. Smiley Very Happy I didn't ask for anything too crazy, just a bump up to $3/$4k from my measly $1k.

@M_Smart007 Thank you.  You may not consider yourself a guru, but I appreciate the feedback and help.

I'll try to not bite my nails, and be patient, and just wait to see what Ol' Navy has for me.  Hopefully it is good news, but I will share it regardless.  I hope it ends with congrats!

Thanks again.

@portlandmusician

It took DH 5 days to hear back during the pandemic, but when I called they had gotten a little mixed up and calling fixed that.  If you have not heard back by the 48 hour mark I would send a secure message to follow up.  Then give that 2 days, then call.  They are wonderful and during normal times stuff like this is highly unusual, but they are working with reduced staff just like everyone else out there.

@recoveringfrombk7 What was your DH's end results?  I'm curious, as I continue to wait.  Tom Petty is right, the waiting is the hardest part.

@portlandmusician

12k starting line on a plat, we did need to send POI.  DH is self employed and does not do his checking banking with Navy.

Desired BK recovery line up complete 7/12/2021. Planning to garden until 8/2023 and potentially try for AMEX.

12 days and counting. Looks like I'm only going for the CLI as of right now. Things could change in the next two weeks 🤔

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

@EOL2018 thank you and blessings to you and your family during this holiday season as well!

Just be aware that Navy will look at your utilization and DTI when evaluating for the new card. It looks like your utilization is currently pretty steep on your current accounts and you have used about $1450 of your $2450 combined CL's  on the cards you listed and I don't know if you have a balance on your current Navy card. Personally I would try to get everything at least under 29% (9% even better) before going for a new card but that's just me. Possibly consider calculating your DTI and see where that is falling just so you have all the info prior to an application because Navy will look at DTI as well.

I know the excitement of going for a new card and I'm not trying to be negative but just want to throw this out there so if you can reduce those current balances you may increase your odds greatly! As always YMMV though and I am looking forward to following your progress!Smiley Wink

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

@OmarGB9  My first card in January of this year was CR with a $10K SL. Got the bump to $18K at 91/3 and then to $21K in October.

My Platinum SL in July was $15K then went to $18K at 91/3.

Re: Navy Federal Thread for CLI and Additional Cards

@Anonymous thanks for that, I actually looked at the cards I have balances on and decided that I would get them down to 30% utililization before applying. I may just go ahead and pay them to 9-10% and then apply. I am not sure how long it would take for those creditors to report those payments to the credit bureaus......anywho, I think that is what I will do. Pay those balances down, and then wait for the 4th statement & payment for NFCU!

Everyone has been most helpful, I really appreciate it. I think that is what it is all about, sharing the knowledge and skills we have with others! I do it every chance I get. Paying it forward!

Best!
