If you're approved for a credit limit like $1,500, and then ask for a CLI later and go about $5,000, will Navy Fed upgrade you from a regular card to a Signature card?

Yeah, just seems to take awhile to go through.  I just had that happen on mine and the first indication I saw of it happening was on my statement that cut following the CLI.  It indicated it was a Signature on the statement.  Then the name changed to reflect it was a Signature in the account list a few days later.  When I called them this morning I inquired about it and she indicated that it had been processed last weekend (2/29-3/01) during their maintanence and the card should be shipping any day.

So theoretically it could take a couple days afterwards and then the account number will change, I'm assuming. Good to know. Thanks for the info!

@Matt9543 When i originally got my 7500 CLI on each card (same day)  They showed up as VS and WMC on the website immediately and the new sig cards were in my hands within a week, same numbers and everything.  I don't even think the CVC# changed either, but i can check

I'm just mainly curious as I got approved for the cashRewards with a 11.15% APR but only a $1,400 credit limit, and wanted to see if I would at any time get the signature benefits. Also, if at any time I want to move it to a MasterCard, is that possible?

edit: so the same card number but signature benefits??

@Matt9543   Yes, once your card goes over 5k, you automatically get upgraded to the sig benefits and a new card is sent out. My two the got upgraded to sig, one started as a 1k CR and the other a 4k GR, so i know it's possible. One exception is Platinum as it doesn't have VS or WMC abilities.  It is exactly the same everything with the added benefits to your already existing account.

Yes, you can transfer between card types/benefits, however just like when you change card types, i would say that you would want to use up your points so you don't lose them when transfering between program or billing network.    I have changed my cards around many times, but i have stuck with a certain billing network with certain cards (personal pref only) so i'm not sure if you change the network type but keep the same program if your points/CB will remain.

Ah, okay! Thanks for all the information. I'll probably just stick with the visa version, but it's good to know that you'll automatically get moved to the signature benefits. I'm trying to consolidate all my spend down to Navy Federal cards, and I've been super impressed with the ease of it all. Plus, I was considerin at one point doing a Line of Credit, but theoretically the interest rate would be lower on this card compared to getting the line of Credit, since the cash advance APR is only 2% higher than the purchase, but still lower than the lowest APR of the loc. Do you have any advice on this also?

I actually just got it today.  Also got the letter today indicating that it got upgraded and it was on it's way!  Good thing I read that letter first before opening the one with the card in it or else I'd really be confused!  lol

I was actually wondering about that myself, but came to the conclusion that that had to be the case.  Thanks for confirming!

@Matt9543  I love Navy and i love to help as i was once in your shoes, so YES i can speak to that Smiley Wink

The CLOC is super awesome to have for the OD protection.  That being said, NEVER use it. Even if you get the lowest APR it has, it's daily not monthly like the cards, so it adds up fast.  It is amazing Util padding, and if you do, ask for the max of 15k and take what they offer as it will grow like the cards do.
