In about a week, I'll be coming up on my 61 days with Amex, and when I do hit my 61 days, I do plan on requesting a CLI. But I was just wondering, if I request more than x3, will I just be countered for x3 my current CL, or will I just be outright declined for the request?
Thanks in advance!
Your allowed 3x I wouldn't take the chance as you may get a financial review for the extra and no guarantees. But your mileage may vary. Good Luck!

What is your existing AMEX CL amount you are going to use as the base for the CLI?
My 61st day is coming up on Wednesday...counting the hours. lol

I'm currently at 2,000. I know I can safely request 6,000 come my 61 days, but I was curious to see if it would be possible to request, say, maybe 10,000, or would that be too ballsy?
In the month or so of having it, I've charged well over the 2,000 limit, and have always paid it down. I used it to charge a bunch of my parents business expenses to meet the sign-up bonus, and shortly after, paid those charges. I am carrying a balance of approx. 300. Would these big spendings along with the capability of making multiple large payments show Amex that I'm capable of holding a limit like 10,000 or should I just scrap the idea and go for the safe x3?
Others with more experience can chime in, but from what I've read, AMEX spooks easily & asking for a CLI that totals 5X your existing limit after only having it 60 days might be too much. They're already way more generous than most CCCs just by making the possibility of a 3x increase possible so soon for so many.

What exactly happens in a financial review from AMEX? Do they put a temporary freeze on your card? Someone mentioned on another forum that even typing a high number in the "Spending Ability" option will trigger a FR.
You have to sign a form allowing them to get very extensive records from the IRS so that they can verify your income to justify the increase. If you refuse they'll deny the request & may even close your account.
