Second approval?

I applied for Southwest Rewards Plus card a few days ago. Since I have a bankruptcy on my file from 2011 (thanks housing crash), I knew I'd be denied so I immediately called recon. This worked for me in April when I was approved for the Freedom Unlimited and the IHG cards back to back. But this go around I was told I was denied, so I asked for a recon, and after answering all the usual questions, the woman informed me she wasn't denying me but that my application required a second/final approval. She said it would take two weeks. I wasn't sure how to feel about this since it was different than my experience with Chase in April but I began to assume the worst. Now when I call the automated line, I get the 30 days message, which based on these forums, could be a good omen. I fly Southwest all the time and really want this card. Thoughts? Has anyone else been told they need a second approval?

Re: Second approval?

It just means you're on the cusp of their criteria.  Getting a recon to recommend a 2nd look is a good sign.  Otherwise they would have just said No and moved onto the next app.  Just give them time to work through the process and see what happens.  At least you knew better than to just let a rejection go w/o the BK Recon process.  Many don't know that the auto decline can be turned into an approval.

Re: Second approval?

After a week, the automated line changed my 30-day mail notice to one that said my app was still under review but I would be hearing from Chase in 7-10 days. Since I have a fraud alert set up with the credit bureaus, I phoned Chase's lending line to see if they needed to verify any info. They said I had been denied. I appealed again and they re-reviewed my app, asking many questions and spending 30 minutes on the process. The rep was very nice and truly seemed like he was trying all he could do. In the end, he said I was still denied because I had a short history with Chase's two other cards (two months) and they wanted to see how I manage those cards before authorizing a third one within three months. It was a reasonable decision so I accepted it. Just relaying it here as a cautionary tale/another data point. In the meantime, however, I was approved for an American Express Gold Delta card last week. This on top of the Amex Hilton Surpass. All in all, four new cards in 2 1/2 months ain't bad. Cheers!
