TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART -Coveted Credit Card Crushes?

I have been rebuilding.  I have but 1 baddie left.   I made Discover and Amex whole.   I have been applying and doing the prequalify applications.   I have corresponded with executive offices.  Tried to get Amex Optima after the fact... tried to prequalify for a mere Discover secured. My scores are at 670 give and take.  But now I feel they may both have lost their shine after getting approved from other cards... in particular Navy Fed.

I feel like I had these crushes and the right one comes along and treats you good - then your like "I'm good!"  I know I defaulted but did the right thing and paid them off and may not deserve another chance.  But seeing so many that get back so soon after bancruptcy... it's like why not me?

How about you? Did you ever have a conveted card and you just gave up and had a TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE ❤️!

I think I may not even try anymore... or try just for the thrill but not really care as much.

My mom used to say "run away until you catch them" in regards to men.   But maybe I can apply this to my credit card crushes. Maybe soon they will be interested in me when I'm no longer interested in them.

Re: Your Coveted Credit Card and CC Crushes?

@Linnaea, your approach and current mindset is sound.  I kinda-sorta went through the same thing back in 2020 when I got my Chapter 13 discharge.  At that point in time I had been nearly 7-years without a credit card, and after several initial denials, I was thrilled to get approved for the CapOne secured Platinum card; the bloom fall off that rose shortly thereafter when they started holding my frequent payment due to triggering an AML protocol; I closed that card  just over 6-weeks after it arrived in the mail.  I then landed a secured TDCash card with a $5,000 limit, and if anything, it is still my go to card.

At this point I have six fairly solid cards which serve me quite well and I won't be applying for anything new until after my wife and I close on a new home (hopefully) sometime in few months.  Once the mortgage is set in stone, I have a few cards in mind for applications, but nothing pressing:

  • Delta SkyMiles Gold or Reserve*: it is unlikely I'll get approved, so no harm/no foul if I don't.
  • NFCU More Rewards: I've already been coaxed to apply, and given I'm becoming annoyed by CapOne's refusal to grant me a CLI, so this would be a nice card to replace my SavorOne with, and I already have a CFU to (mostly) replace my Quicksilver.
  • United Quest or Club*: if my company puts me back on the road (my job is supposed to entail 26-weeks per year of travel), United is their preferred carrier.

* Regarding the Delta SkyMiles Reserve and/or the United Club card; if I start traveling only occasionally, then neither of these cards will be in my sights, but if I go back to the 26-week per year thing, then having lounge access will be worth the high AF.

Chapter 13:

  • Burned: AMEX, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and South County Bank (now Bank of Southern California)
  • Filed: 26-Feb-2015
  • MoC: 01-Mar-2015
  • 1st Payment (posted): 23-Mar-2015
  • Last Payment (posted): 07-Feb-2020
  • Discharged: 04-Mar-2020
  • Closed: 23-Jun-2020

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

Thank you for the thoughtful reply.  I am happy I am not alone.   At some point I just want a medium arsenal of super hero cards.   Not cards with Super Heroes on it... but a few cards that have impressive limits and perks.   I guess like a lot of people I can be inpatient.   Oh how I wish I would of known more about the difficulty of getting back in... but the debt relief company was not forthcoming.

I suppose I feel like a big fat loser when I stalk the preapproval sites of Amex and Discover. I am happy to know I'm not alone.   The anecdotal stories these forum and replies provide me with are priceless.   Thank you.   😊

I always wanted  Bonnie Tyler CC. Seriously, I tried for awhile to replace all my cancelled cards. Almost did, but I realized there were some cards I no longer was interested.  Good luck to you!

BTW, I watched the eclipse in a total eclipse pathway.

Perceive it as an omen that there is brightness on the other side 🙂
