I shop at Target a lot and I have the debit card version of their Redcard. It's directly connected to my checking account. I've had no issues for all the years that I've had it, and I only got the debit card because my credit was crap at that time. Is there any incentive to apply for the credit version? I stopped using my debit cards for the past two years, over security concerns after coming here to the boards, but Target is the only exception. My understanding is also that it starts off as the store version and may or may not convert to the Visa version?
The fact you can carry a balance and it may convert is the only benefit

I am in the same boat. Especially the concern with utilizing cards connected to my bank account - I've had some fraud activity recently (not with Target). I do value that 5% savings.
I had been considering getting the credit card but the only benefit from my research like @Brian_Earl_Spilner is you can carry a balance if you need to. Or have an additional card on your credit report.
I also read on the forum that you cannot request CLIs and have to wait for them to give you one.
I'm leaning towards just making the purchases on one of my credit cards and absorbing the points.
I'd be interested in what you decide to do ![]()

@KLEXH25 One thing you have to decide ... Applying for the CC, you will take a AoYA & AAoA Hit to your profile.
Also minor Inquiry score hit, to the bureau they pull.
They usually do not start out with large CL's, and No guarantee's of graduating to a Visa. Edited: MC (I think it used to be Visa)
CLI's cannot be requested![]()
So the decision, Is it really worth it?
@KLEXH25 Why don't you try to apply for the Credit card version! You've had a target debit card I'm sure target will look into your target debit card history and who knows you might just get the credit card version. Good luck!

TD Bank Underwrites the Target CC, they would have no way to look at current Target Corporation Debit card history.
"The Target Debit Card is issued by Target Corporation and can only be used at Target stores in the United States and on Target.com"

I personally like it. My DW and I can just buy what we need irrespective of whether we have the right cash in the right account right now. We can independently pay our share each month. We PIF. And yes, you take a AAoA and what not hit, but at the end of the day its a great resource for US. YMMV. ,.,

Well, all of these reasons are basically why I haven't jumped on applying for the credit card. And I certainly wouldn't come out of the garden for this card. I'd only piggyback it with another app. I have no intention of carrying any balances either, since the interest would negate any savings I'd get.
My main reasons for looking into it are security (not having it tied to my bank account), and the grace period so that I don't have to worry about having enough money in my account for large purchases. I just really don't like that I can't automatically apply for or get the Visa version. And I fear a low limit, which is pointless if I want to make a large purchase. Plus, I can easily spend $100+ per visit.

I'm curious....what limit did you start with and have you had it for long?
I like mine/appreciate the flexibility it offers. I was surprised to get approved for a 2k limit about a year after burning them for about 2k in BK.
