In January of last year after closing on my mortgage, I app'd for 4 cards with USB Go being my #2 target. Below is a timeline:
- #1 target - Applied and was instantly approved for a FNBO card in Jan.
- #2 target - Applied for USB Go same day as #1 app above. Took over 2 weeks in UW, but finally got approved in early Feb.
- #3 target - Applied and was instantly approved for Amazon Prime store card the next day in Jan.
- #4 target - Applied for AOD Signature card in Jan. Took several weeks, but was finally approved in mid-Feb.
- #5 afterthought target - Applied as was instantly approved for AMEX in Feb.
- #6 target - Applied and was instantly approved for Affinity FCU card in May.
- #7 target - Applied and was instantly approved for NFCU Platinum in May.
So, when USB pulled my credit in January I appeared to be 0/12.
By March, I appeared to be 4/12 or even 5/12 (I think Amex didn't report to the CRA's for a couple of months, though).
By June, I appeared to be 7/12 when looking at my CRA's.
I remember seeing USB doing SP on my credit for several months after being approved, but even with all that activity they didn't seem to be concerned enough to close my account. I did open a checking account after getting my GO ($400 SUB was too enticing), maybe that helped calm them a bit?
Thanks for the details here! I plan on also opening a checking account when I app for their card (they routinely have good SUB for checking accounts). Hopefully that helps my case, my F8 scores should be somewhere in the 740/750 range by the time I look at applying, and my F9 scores have always been 20-30 points higher than my F8 scores. I'll be 0/12 with youngest account being about 15 months old when I apply, hoping all of these factors end with a good result.
I seem to remember now that USB initially declined my app due to several HP's being the reason, but I recon'd with them stating those HP's were due to my mortgage application. I should probably also mention that my BK7 (filed 9 years prior at that time) was still on all 3 CRA reports at the time of applying.
If anything, I was a pretty risky app for them (for what many here regard as having stringent standards) but was still approved... and I did a number of risky apps after getting the USB Go. They didn't close my card nor do a CLD, so I have a feeling you are safe attempting the goals you mentioned. Good luck!

Does US Bank have a record of doing the same? I'm planning on apping for at least 3 cards on the same day or so.
I can safely say that if you have to spree then US Bank is the one you want to file first. Not having a relationship means you will have both a microscope and a telescope poking through your profile. If you can you might want to list your /24 as well. They will look at a lot of history if your going to apply. Chase is second as they are also subject to reviewing your stuff and being stingy via 5/24. Anyone else should be dead last. I have never met anyone more cruel than the first two but in many cases 3 cards is nothing to them if you set it right.

While I'll be at 0/12, I'll be at 6/24 when I plan on apping for US Bank. My plan was to app with them first, then if I get approved, move to First Tech FCU (I really want to establish my credit card relationship with them) and then Penfed FCU. From what I understand, FTFCU pulls only EX and Penfed pulls EQ for credit cards, so was hoping to basically spread these apps across the bureaus.
When I did my app spree in November, everything worked out except Citi (from what I understand, they don't want to see a HP in the past week or so), but I REALLY want this US Bank card and I'd really like to get in the door with Penfed and First Tech from a credit card standpoint.
If worst comes to worst, I'd be happy with just getting the US Bank card and checking Truist and AMEX out for some SP approvals, but I'd like to be able to start paring down my card catalog.
I can safely say that US bank will be most likely Experian. Also, yes, Pentagon FCU likes Equifax. I sadly am not hands on familiar with First Tech FCU so your on your own there but them liking Experian does sound right. Only thing is I did hear that First Tech will be rough if you have large credit lines already for your profile.
Understand that with 6/24 you probably will not get into Chase if those are all CC accounts that got approved at this time. I would prepare to recon with US bank if you have to as they are worth it and their systems sometimes take into consideration all 24 months. It is just looser. Considering PenFed is the easiest of all three it is good to keep them last. Be aware that if you want stuff from Truist or AmEx as an SP your best bet is to apply for it before you start dropping HP's on your report not after you had a bunch of answers.

Thanks for the info! I already have my Chase trifecta, so not really interested in any other Chase cards, fortunately. Hopefully US Bank plays nice, but even if they don't, I'll go for the Elan Max Cash Preferred with one of the banks by me. Just hoping US Bank approves me, with their SP CLIs and such.

You're correct that First Tech FCU likes to HP from Experian.
US Bank is less predictable; they're most widely known as being a Transunion puller but in reality they can and will pull instead from either Experian or Equifax as the primary source (your state of residence appears to influence who they pull from) and they commonly also pull from SageStream as a secondary source.
First Tech has been known for the last several years not so much for concerns with large credit lines per se, it's more like they prefer applicants with less than roughly $200K-$250K in aggregate limit across all their current cards.

This is good news, I was somewhat concerned because I figure that I'll be around $150k in aggregate limit when I app for the FTFCU card, so I'm hoping that that rough estimate is accurate lol
I know some lenders are really concerned about your inquiries, so I'm trying to spread them across bureaus (difficult bc it seems like almost everyone I want to get cards with uses EX lol), but this should be my last spree, after this, I'll only be getting individual cards as ones I'm interested in pop up.
