Hi all,
I am considering in the following days to apply for a Citi Prestige. My score is currently of 713 FICO 8 Bankcard per Citibank own website.
I only have 1 CC AAdvantage Platinum Select WE Citibank. It has been opened since May 2018. I have previous relation with Citi.
I want to know how impacts me, specifically to my score and other repercussions if i apply now February 2019 for the Citi Prestige and get denied. What will happen? I am new at the forums so i don't know the consequences or how can this affect me in my specific situation score?
I have never asked any CC from any bank, i only applied once to my AA card and that's it. The only thing i have done is get approved for an instant SP in the Citibank app this week. I have always PIF and the card has been used respectfully. The AA card sits at 16.5K which has me a bit worried as i have read that you are allocated a set ammount credit exposure by your bank, in this case Citi. So i don't know if actually having a 16.5K card is more of a negative than a positive factor to apply? Also and more importantly, what i have been reading here is that my AA card needs to be 1 year old, for me to apply to another Citi card? Or is this more as a recommendation but not a rule.
Last but not least Thanks a bunch guys for all your learning and teaching!
I am in the US now and probably will be in another country in May, and as i can only apply in branch (No SSN/ITIN), need the card for overseas routine, i wouldn't be able to wait until the full year.
BTW: The FICO Scores have been showing to me since November 2018, that's when they started posting in Citi's website tool to see the FICO score. It was 0 in October, then it was born at 710 November, then 713 December, January 713. And i don't know what will happen in February with the SP, or.. if i apply and get approved with the account opened.... or scenario B if i apply and get a denial.
Danke again!

You're doing well, and shouldn't feel the need to get another card.
But if you do apply for it, there is usually a small score drop for the inquiry, and if you get it there is a small drop for the new account, and lowered average age of accounts. But those drops will go away over time, and eventually your score will be higher than before you applied.
The way to manage the 2 cards to maximize your scores is to let 1 report a small balance while the other reports a zero balance.
I don't have much knowledge about the Prestige card. But I'm guessing that your chances would be enhanced if you waited until June, so that you had a 1-year track record with the AA card.
