What is the chance of me getting approved for amex

This my first time posting so bare with me. I had been a stay at home mom for 16 years. I have been a co-signer on my husbands cards for 15 years. American express being one of them. Always in good standing. I have basically no credit. I have the my husbands Amex and Bank of America profile listed on my report and my sons student loans $18000. I will start paying that down this month . No derogatory no late payments. Short credit history. Fico 8 Experian 722. I want my own credit. My own car loan. What do you think my chances are getting approved.. also 4 inquiries 3 denied due to short credit history within the past 6 months.

Have you tried their prequal page?

I've seen only two members post about their spouses being approved with only AU acounts, rest were denials. Most algorithms will scrub AU accounts to get a better picture of what your own credit looks like.

I'd be worried you get a prequal, but after the HP accounts get scrubbed, resulting in denial.
On a positive side, it's a single pull so it cant hurt too much to try. You have to start somewhere.

Conversely, you could start with your own secured card, wait six months, then see what's available to you.

I agree with this completely

I would definitely give Amex a shot, though.  As mentioned, the worst that can happen is a single inquiry and they say no.  Your previous experience as an authorized user won't really help with them, but with a thin file like yours they can be willing to approve.  It sounds like the student loan is a joint account and has been deferred for a while?  If that's the case then you definitely have built up some credit of your own even though there has been no payment activity.

Agreed. 6 months of responsible usage on a secured card will get you into more doors.

should definitely try the prequal first.

i feel like your chances are pretty good to get approved for an amex.

i have similar fico 8 experian score and about 4 months of credit history of my own cc (non an) and i was approved for a charge card.

good luck

Do you have large BofA assets? Are you eliglbe for preferred rewards? Otherwise, echo what others have said, try AMEX.

What are you looking for a card? Where is most of your spend on?

Another possibility is whatever bank you deal with. They'll often approve a credit card in branch for a customer.

The good news is, with your unblemished history, once you have credit in your own name your score should start heading to the stratosphere soon.

I think this is the most solid advise for you, except I think you might be able to get an unsecured card with Capital One. It's pretty much a toss up with the pre-qual due to lack of credit history, so if you're feeling froggy you can jump. If not, establish with Capital One, and revisit in 6 months.
