called in a few minutes ago to request a truist CLI. the operator got the info down and submitted it. her system crashed. said she kept getting errors. she tries again. same thing. i get transferred to another agent who informs me the CLI cannot be processed because i have an expired drivers license. i dont have an expired license. i renewed over a year ago with the new state required "real ID" license. besides, i dont understand why that has anything to do with why they cant process a CLI request. ive never had this happen before. the whole thing just seems odd. i know people who have credit without a drivers license. am i missing something here? i never received a HP on equifax so i guess they really didnt process the request. they informed me i needed to take my license to the nearest local branch to update my profile before a request can be considered. im gonna do that today. however i would like your thoughts & whether or not this is normal.
Definitely not normal. Since you don't know the source of incorrect information you might want to go online and get a copy of your Lexis Nexis consumer report to confirm everything is in order before you call or visit the RMV.
Possibly just Truist being Truist...
just an update....
i went to my local truist branch and updated my info. they said its all good but in order to process the CLI id have to call the number on the back of the card as they are unable to do that there at the branch. i get home and call them up. they have the same error as before. we verified my license info, did a verification text but no luck. they now say ill have to go to the local branch to get the CLI. anyone else have any luck with a truist CLI? i just dont get what the big deal is with a simple CLI. im glad i didnt move all my banking to truist when they had the $400 cash offer for switching a few weeks ago. i think ill keep my credit limit where it is and just let this go for now before something worse happens.
I've heard a few odd stories like this about Truist and
don't hear anyone raving about their positive experiences.
IMO, better left alone or to handle with caution.
Thanks for the information and updates!

@JcT21 , I had a similar experience but it ended well. I felt the issue may have come from the conversion but who really knows with these things. You might wait a month or two for the system to settle with the updated credentials and try again. Since you didn't receive a HP, there is nothing to lose. Of course this is only an opinion.
Here are my DPs:
12/2020 opened acct SL $6500
12/13/21 Called to req +$6.5K CLI ; App submitted. Told process takes 24hrs.
12/15/21 Called for update. CSR said no decision, will research.
12/16/21 Call back from CSR. The system won't accept the request due to expired DL. Have to take current DL to local branch, will not accept via email. I told her couldn't do that now because of Covid restrictions.
*Decided I would try again later and if same outcome would keep the card until 2yr anniversary, 12/2022, and close.*
4/20/22 Called again and spoke to an Agent who it became quickly obvious was experienced in processing applications.
Req'd +$8.5k CLI, $15k or counter. She easily updated my DL in the system during the application process. She said she would put it through as if it were a new application but it would be processed as a CLI. She wasn't sure if it would be a SP or HP, but to expect a HP. The application was submitted without issue. She advised I allow 15 days processing but usually takes 5-7 days.
4/21/22 Checked website. CLI was Approved, CL $15k.
4/26/22 Received price of credit letter HP EQ-5.
I plan to request another CLI in Aug/Sep to $25k and hold. They continually send out BT checks (bi/monthly) so I'm glad it worked out.
JcT21,
This is the new normal for Truist. I guess the bank threw out common sense when they threw away the BB&T name.
The same thing happened to me when I deposited a check into my savings account. They had to update my license, which had not expired.
When I asked about a CLI, the rep at the branch said the majority of CLI requests are hard pulls and she didn't know the scenarios where some would be a SP or HP.
