Hi all,
I wanted to share my credit history and how I've gotten to where I am today. By the way I only just turned 19 as of two months ago, meaning I have 1 year and 2 months of credit history. I applied for my first CC, the BofA Cash Rewards, on my 18th birthday. I got approved instantly with an 800$ limit, likely because I've had a checking account with them for years prior.
Around my 10th month of credit history, I applied for the CapitalOne Savor card but got denied, being my score was too low / lack of credit history (I had around a 700 score).
My credit limit recently got boosted with BofA from 800$ to 2300$, and I knew that would take my score up which was currently around 700-720 with the 3 credit bureaus. My Experian score shot up to 752, while my Transunion and Equifax are in the 740's. I decided it was the right time to apply for another credit card I wanted. I was looking at the Chase Saphire Preferred, but didn't want to risk it as the minumum CL for the card is 5000$, and not being a Chase banking customer, I knew they wouldn't want to be the first to give me such a high limit.
I opened a student checking account with chase(no fees and a 100$ bonus), then applied for the Chase Freedom Unlimited and got approved with a 3400$ CL. This brings my total CL to 5700$. If anyone is curious, my income I reported on the application is roughly 25k/year off of freelance programming and cybersecurity while being a fulltime student.
