I remember years ago they sent me a ton of letters telling me that my low CL was my own fault and I could request a CLI at any time. At the time, I thought, "why would I spend that much?" And later, "I have another card with a higher limit if I need to spend that much." They've given me 3 or 4 auto CLIs over the years despite myself, most recently in December, and in May they told me to wait 6 months (from December), probably shocked that I even asked for a CLI given my history.

Did you read the study that the old, the wealthy, and Midwesterners are most likely to close credit cards? I'd bet that people who voluntarily forego CLIs or reduce CLs fall into the same categories. I fit into one of those categories, and with luck, maybe all three one day.
