So I applied for the Citi Thank u premier card yesterday evening and I got the “we’re still reviewing your application” message.
Now this is the first time I have gotten a message like this on an application. Normally, I get either instantly approved or instantly denied. I kinda thought I would get instantly denied for this anyways but I figured I’ll test my luck before I head to the garden.
I’ve had 9 new accounts this year alone so I certainly wasn’t super confident regardless. However, I only have 7 new accounts reporting as of now.
Utilization is below 9% with over 100k total credit. My last late was 3 years and 6 months ago (student loans). Citi pulled Transunion (714) and Experian (690). I think I have 4 recent inquiries in the last 6 months on Experian and Transunion.
What should I expect? I’ve called and they told me I have to wait a week for a decision which is strange to me. It almost makes me feel as if I actually have a chance of getting the card.

I think you still have a chance. It is my experience that Citi will usually outright deny if they see something they don’t like with your profile. It could be verification-related, or your profile could be borderline for approval.
When I got the 7-10 day message on my DC app a couple weeks ago, I had success by calling 1-800-695-5171.
Good luck!
Well I did call the application inquiry number and spoke to a senior specialist. He basically asked me to verify my info, and told me they would get back to me in a week from email or phone with decision. So maybe if I do get declined, the reason wouldn’t be because of new accounts/inquries? It seems like their system would had instantly denied me if that was the case but who knows.
so I guess I’ll just wait it out and see! This is the most drawn out approval/denial I have ever been through lol
My husband just applied for this, received that message then received an approval email within about 30 minutes iirc.
So still no decision has been made in my application after almost a week. Any ideas on what I should do? I called them yesterday and the lady said the UW specialist will try to get to my app by the end of the day (yesterday) but still nothing.
I wonder what’s taken them so long

OP, some applications require additional processing or verification plus if there's any spikes or increased volumes then that may be the case.
I had a similar situation last summer with an Expedia application. The whole process took about a week and a half.
Although, IME, due to the large exposure I have with Citi, a senior UW needed to sign off on the approval. I simply let it go through its paces (didn't need to check that often) and continued with daily living. I eventually received an email with the approval.
Bottom line, you'll hear from them sooner than later on the status of the application.
Ok thanks. I’ll just wait it out and see what Happens from there.
Update!
literally a week later I got the email sayin I was approved for 4200! I wasn’t expecting to be approved but I’ll definitely take it lol
