Woke up this morning to an email from Discover bumping my credit line up $1,500 ---- $5,700 to $7,200.
A little history...over the last several years, I had been carrying a lot of credit card debt. Discover was the first to start balance chasing me. American Express and Chase were next, followed by Citi. Capital One was the only creditor who didn't (maybe because I bank with them, but they continued to let me get close to my $17,500 credit line without any adverse actions). A couple months ago, I was able to pay my total utilization from 88% to 8%. Last month, I opened a CFU and balance transferred the Disco balance to it ($2100).
Since then, I used my Disco for about $77, which I paid before the statement cut and voila auto CLI. Scores are all 780 and above across all credit scoring models (had hit the 800's last month, but opened the CFU and refinanced a car I bought in July). Average age of accounts is a little over 10 years.
I haven't been requesting CLI's because I didn't want to draw attention to the large decrease in income after my husband passed away in February. I'm not sure my income alone supports the credit lines I already have. I didn't want to fill out the income portion of the request and have them re-calculate me to a lower credit line! However, I'll gladly accept any auto luv thrown my way!
