AMEX BCE 2X CLI 180 Days

Hello!

Just thought I'd reshare my AMEX BCE CLI increase today

This card started at $1k in November, approved for 2X upon activation and today at the exact 180 mark I requested a 3X CLI but was countered with another 2X CLI.

CL is now $4k all thanks to this forum and the wise users! A big thanks to everyone, even though I mostly lurk

Data points:

AMEX EX Score: 705 (4/23)

Last AMEX SP: 4/29

Current EX Score: 723

Utilization on card at time of approval: 75% - so it seems AMEX, in certain cases, does not care about carrying a balance (I had read otherwise).

Congrats on the increases! 

Question though.  You said you when you first got the card you were approved for a 2X CLI.  It was to my understanding that you can't get your first CLI for 61 days after activation for Amex cards?  I know that CLI's can be requested every 180 days from there on out, but didn't think after being approved you could call recon or anything and get an immediate CLI prior to 61 days.

Hello BBS, that's not accurate. Once you receive the card and activate it you can ask for a 3X CLI, it's not guaranteed and like in my case you may only get a 2X CLI.

So what is the 61 day rule then?  I'm confused as I was reading through the monster Amex 3X CLI thread earlier and in that thread it specifically states that your first CLI can be requested 61 days after your card is approved.  No where (that I saw) in that thread did it say anything about requesting an immediate CLI right after being approved.

I'm not sure about the accuracy of the huge thread, in regards to the 61 day rule but I believe the 61 rule no longer applies. As a matter of fact the AMEX representative that I spoke to (I had to call in after I apped to verify some info) prompted me to ask for a CLI when I activated my card.

Very interesting information.  Thanks for that.  That Amex 3X CLI thread has been ongoing for 2+ years with 2000+ posts and I didn't see anything about this.  Granted, I didn't read the entire thread but did read the last month or so of posts and there has been no mention of anything but 61 day CLIs.  I'd suggest you post over in that thread as this information would probably be pretty useful to many that are reading over there.

I was approved for the BCE card on March 27th with a 1k limit. When I got my card I requested a 3 x CLI at activation and was denied. When I got the letter in the mail it specifically stated that I couldn't ask for a CLI until  I had the card for 61 days. The letter actually says to try after 61 days. I guess it's fair to say that everyone's situation is truly different.

This was exactly my understanding from reading through that monster thread.  I'm very surprised to hear that the OP of this thread experienced something completely different, and seemingly very rare.
