Decided to settle a few cards about 4 years ago (Chase and Discover) for less than balance. Afyer my final debt settlement payment (about 2 years ago) I opened a Capital One Secured Card ($500 limit) and 10 months after that I got approved for a Capital One Quicksilver ($5k limit) as well as an auto lease. My current scores hover around 700.

My negatives will all be falling off in 2+ years and at some point after that I'd like to get a mortgage, so I decided to add another card to my profile now. I asked on the credit card forum and a few people suggested getting in the door with AMEX. I settled on the Blue Cash Everyday since it fit my spending and has no annual fee.

After passing the prequal I decided to apply and was approved. I was expecting a relatively low limit to start given my history, but to my surprise received an $8k initial limit.
