YAY!! ABC congrats on finally getting with Amex again! Nice job, and thank you for taking the time to type out all the data!

I figure the more info I share, the more it helps people on the fence about things!

Plus even though I'm retired officially, I still do a ton of writing-for-pay so I'll always be more verbose than others, lol.

Re: American Express (AMEX) Blue Cash Preferred (BCP) -- no prequalification

Just an update: apped 11/1/17, card arrived today 11/7/17 -- less than a week.  Tried activating it on the website and it gave me an error that I was locked out and to call the number on the card.

Called the number and the automated assistant let me activate it in about 20 seconds.  Went to the grocery store (6%!) and put a charge through less than 7 minutes after activation.

Pretty card, too bad I don't care much for pretty.  Going to add it to mobile pay tomorrow -- I assume mobile payments get the same rewards but I always test a card with a mobile pay charge to verify.

A few weird data points

  • The "Offers" section on the website was blank until yesterday, now it has a bunch of mostly useless shopping deals/coupons.  77 offers, not one matches my habits.
  • Mint.com refused to let me connect with Amex until I got the card, even though I set up my online account moments after being approved online.  So the temporary card seems to prevent Mint from connecting, but today after activation it connected fine and downloaded my grocery store charge today just fine.
  • Will report back when the card first reports -- $95 AF will post on the first statement but I won't prepay it just to see if it reports too quickly.  Most people say the 2nd statement reports, so I'll let that $95 ride if it does report and deal with it next month.  Could prepay it but want to see what happens first.

Congratulations on the approval!  I love seeing people get great deals since I love getting them myself.  I applied for the BCP today and was approved for $2000 as well.  I was nervous waiting in the window to finish loading it's final decision.  I struggled to maintain my composure.  Then I was ecstatic when I realized I was approved.  I had to wait for years to get an American Express card because my credit was in the toilet.  I feel like it is a status symbol to have one.  Only people with good credit and/or a lot of money have one.

What do you gain by this last bullet point?

Has the second statement reported yet?  How did this work out?

I let my first statement balance ride and it didn’t report at all, as expected. First credit bureau report was second statement!

So you were late paying them?  You didn't pay the first months bill to see if it would show on the CR?

No, I am talking about the first statement date, not the first due date.

You can't have a due date without a statement cutting first.  The first statement cut with a balance, and that balance didn't report.  I paid it before the due date to avoid interest.
