Amex Bonvoy Brilliant Approved

Well, decided while the business was still in flux and in that I don't really care that much about inquiries if one lands on Experian anyway, decided to just up and apply under SP since I can meet the SUB easily on money I have to spend anyway, and I'm going to be travelling more regardless and with the SF law changes suddenly some Marriot properties are pencilling out awfully close to Airbnb rates there.

Add that to the additional cash flow I will have in April where I have a 3rd gig for a month, and suddenly optimizing the travel time between job site and hotel suddenly has monetary value and BART / MUNI just aren't great for trying to get work done with spotty connectivity so trying to save even 50 or 100 bucks a night isn't worth it if I lose an hour or two of billable time or sleep.

When I looked at the difference in AF's between either $150 if you use Marriot at all, and $125 for the base card (post 3/28 $95 AF) it was basically a no brainer going for the upscale one.

Long story short, pulled the trigger on the splash page, used my account login (Stated Pre-approved), filled out the financials and hit submit and had to laugh at the limit.

30K  CL = LOL.

Ah well, for something that doesn't report to anything relevant my second highest SL ever doesn't do much for me Smiley Happy

Random stats:

Personal Current EX FICO 8 = 827.

First Amex was the Zync back in 2012.

First SP business tradeline 2014, but I haven't done much with business credit building besides the CIC and SCP and one Uline tradeline.

Still have Zync, BCE, and SCP on the self-prop side, average monthly spend maybe $25 which is to say not much even if $20 is routine on autopay.

Used personal income from the first gig only, did put in my Bonvoy number, an inquiry doesn't appear to have shown up yet on Experian but that doesn't mean too much this early... also doesn't show up yet in my Amex interface though they did cough up the temporary number when I asked for it.

Anyway I'm still giggling about it Smiley Happy.

Congrats on your Bonvoy Brilliant approval @Revelate Smiley Tongue  Very nice SL to boot! (even if it doesn't report to personal).

I still have my ZYNC and they'll have to pry it out of my cold dead hands Smiley Very Happy

ETA - realized this after the fact, I guess it was the personal version you got approved for.  Whoopsie! Smiley Tongue

Laugh yeah... funny thing they asked me to verify myself with the CVV off the back of the Zync, good times!  Anyway, apparently I have come almost full circle starting with a white Amex and ending up with a mostly black one Smiley Happy.

Yeah, strangely my SP-side Amex cards are higher than my personal ones, but admittedly I never tried pulling the 3X CLI on the now BCE I have hanging around still at 9K since, I guess mid 2013 before a flat deny of anything on my next request hah.  Never went back to it.

I was expecting a SL in line with the SCP or maybe somewhat lower cause I haven't really done much either, which is at 12K.

We'll see how much use it gets, will be more than the $300 travel credit but like I just casually checked rates in SF for the week of 4/8 and there must be something in town as everything is $700+ / night, and it's not late enough for Hotel Tonight to have markedly better pricing.

Airbnb in one of the gentrifying areas of West Oakland which is a short hop via BART to the city is 90/night as of right now and I'm debating just jumping on that anyway... $100/night difference is one thing, rough order of magnitude price difference is something else entirely: not giving up on Airbnb just yet Smiley Happy.

ETA: Weird even the SF Airbnb places were seriously oversubscribed, 150 in Tenderloin, 80 for a shared bunk bed in Mission (I'm too old for that after 20 years on my own), and almost everything else was booked or 250+ per night and just as out of the way to where I'm actually going that week.  West Oakland it is.

I'm just not much of a baller regardless of that billable analysis shared earlier Smiley Happy.

Is this a metal card?

Re: Amex Bonvoy Brilliant Approved

Yes the new one is metal, but not sure when they are transitioning from the old SPG purple to the new Marriot design... haven’t been keeping that close an eye on it honestly nor do I really care that much about metal vs plastic.

It was a thing in the market when the CSR was first introduced as a mass market metal card, now though nobody even remarks on it so I am not sure what the real appeal is... they seemingly don’t hold up as well as plastic ones in my experience at least, already had to replace the CSR as it was splitting apart heh.

Basically I will break even or better with this card and the SUB is non-trivial and it had no impact on my credit at all seemingly... total winning basically.
