Keep in mind I’m not talking about canceling both cards, I’m talking about downgrading the BCP back to bce after its 2nd af hits, and possibly closing gold after its 2nd af hits. These wouldn’t happen at the same time; they’d happen about 7 months apart. But I will keep that in mind. I don’t want to lose Amex. Maybe they’ll refresh the green card by then and give me something better to downgrade to.
You don’t think *just* downgrading the BCP back to BCE will be enough for them to claw back my gold card bonus though, do you??
With the time frame. You may be able to do it just fine. But I have heard of similar situation where people have downgraded or canceled a card, or a few outright and they have had ther bonuses clawed back. Just be careful. It still maybe viewed as churning by Amex.

Thanks for the advice, hopefully no issues. I’ll probably keep the gold around a 2nd year if it will keep them happy, as long as the perks and fee don’t change. But definitely not paying round 2 of he BCP AF.
Thanks for the congrats guys
Good luck. hopefully you won't have any issues. Ultimately you have to do what's right for you.
Congrats on the approval and enjoy your new card!
Grats on the Amex 50k offer---there was a hot second where they were offering 60k last month. I missed it by a day apparently. But I used incognito to soft-land the 50k offer like you did.
So far I'm relatively satisfied with the card -- my only beef is that there is this category called "Bars & Cafes" that I've found a few restaurants I've gone to have been categorized as---this is annoying AF and I've had to call a few times already just to get my 4x. And no, I'm not calling about bars--I'm calling about brunch places and most other casual restaurants that my Sapphire card always classifies as dining. If this doesn't get better by the time next year rolls around, then I'll be downgrading or cancelling because that was not something I expected to have to deal with from a card that markets itself as being for foodies.
Also, I hate grubhub so I've been agreeing to order like ONE thing from Boxed.com each month to get back that 10 bucks. (eyeroll)--but hey I'll do it. The flight credit can be done via gift cards (I think just for DL)--as long as that is still possible--this wont be a big deal for me.
Groceries though--I work from home and I pretty much cook all the time, so my grocery spend is like 150-200 a week -- this is where the card has been worth it as I tend to only go to Safeway or our version of Kroger out here and I've never gotten screwed on those points.
BTW--my first charge was the spend ---still have no points even after having paid my first bill already--does Amex sit on them forever or something?
Congrats!!
