Back in 2003 I was married to an exNavy guy and we had a NFCU account. We divorced and the account was closed in 2004. Fast forward to May of 2017. I wanted to get in with NFCU and missed the Navy League route, but in talking with customer service, they said if I sent an appeal I could potentially have the old account reopned in my name. Perfect!! Sent the appeal and it was reopened.
I applied for the cash rewards Visa and the CLOC and was denied both due to excessive outstanding credit obligations.. I was seriously bummed. So I sent a message about the CLOC and was told to reapply in person or over the phone and have it sent to a Sr Loan Specialist for review. Did that, and was told it would be 2-3 days. Assuming the worst I was even more bummed. However, I received an email less than 2 mins after the call and it was APPROVED for $5000. So I called back about the Visa and was told to send a emessage to appeal. I did, explaining in May I had traveled to CA to see my new grandchild, had between travel expenses and all that I bought for the new baby and my daughter and son in law on credit cards while there I had greatly increased my utilization to 21% from a typical 4-5%, plus, I wanted to balance transfer as much as possible of the outstanding debt to their card to have just 1 payment a month ad get all my finances back with them...and even though I applied individually, I also added I have the income of my sig other that contributes to all expenses.
That was about 6pm and at midnight I received notification I had a message on NFCU. Logged in and was informed I was approved for the cashRewards Visa Signature for $7900.
Needless to say - I am NFCU for LIFE!!!!
**edited to add - they didn't do another HP for either appeal, they used the original TU HPs from a week ago. I have no baddies and myFico TU score is 687. AAoa is 1.5 yrs.
TL;dr NFCU is absolutely the best in every possible way!!!!
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!! contragz on the approvals. very excited for you!
Congrats and welcome back to Navy!
This interests me insofar as Navy declined you based solely on the fact that you are running 21% util. Hmmm.. I wonder what your credit score was before the trip to kids. Any idea? And great job on the recon!
